RADIO DEMOCRAT INTERNATIONAL NIGERIA

Apologies for the impersonal reply. we have had many enquiries, and
are administratively overstretched at the moment so bear with us.

To the listeners who have sent in Reception reports, thank you very
much, these have been forwarded to the technical department. Meanwhile
we would request that if you are in touch with any Short Wave
enthusiasts in Africa, and in particular Nigeria, via whom you could
get reception reports to us we would be most happy to receive them.

**************** INFORMATION **********************

RADIO DEMOCRAT INTERNATIONAL NIGERIA

BACKGROUND
The commencement of broadcasting on June 12th 1996 was the culmination
of work, that has been going on for over a year, by Nalicon,
spearheaded by Professor Wole Soyinka aimed at obtaining a SW facility
to complement the activities of our sister radio station, Freedom
Radio which has been in operation in Lagos, and its environs
broadcasting on 99.9 FM for the past twelve months.

Many diplomatic, administrative and financial hurdles have had to be
overcome but finally the long awaited means of communicating with the
masses of oppressed Nigerians in the North, South East and West of the
country has become available.

THE FIRST WEEK
The maiden broadcast was a speech by Septuagenarian Nationalist Leader
and Nadeco chieftain,
Chief Anthony Eromosele Enahoro of Nadeco. This was followed by an
interview with Professor Wole Soyinka. RDIN has now completed a week
of twice-daily, half hour transmissions. We will shortly post a full
list of the first week's transmissions along with some of the
transcripts.

We are also working on making tapes available so that Nigerians in the
diaspora who cannot receive the station will be able to enjoy
highlights.

TIMES AND FREQUENCIES
Listeners can get Radio Democrat International, Nigeria between 07.00
hrs and 07.30 hrs on 11,900 kilohertz in the 25 metre band in the
Short Wave Frequency. The afternoon broadcast is on 15120 kilohertz in
the 19 metre band on short wave. This is between 16.00hrs and 16.30
hrs.

Although the signal is strongest in the West African subregion we
have had reception reports from Australia, Germany and the USA.

RADIO DEMOCRAT - AIMS

This radio station will provide an avenue for, nationwide
dissemination of information to all Nigerians on a regular basis.
RADIO DEMOCRAT WILL BE THE VOICE OF THE PRODEMOCRACY MOVEMENT, the
voice for all patriotic and Nigerians concerned about democracy, human
rights, the environment and the continuing misrule of the country.

We intend to use this medium to unite and mobilise the people of
Nigeria in the struggle for democracy and good government.

We aim for a resolution to the current impasse related to the annulled
elections by promoting nationwide peaceful resistance to the
fraudulent transition program imposed on the nation to a degree that
will force the military to accede to the peoples demand for immediate
return to democracy, release of political prisoners and a recognition
of the annulled election.

WE WILL
- Monitor and broadcast the truth about the state of the nation, using
all major languages in Nigeria.
- Monitor and report the truth about the next planned set of elections
which are likely to be as flawed as the recent elections
- Counter government lies and propaganda
- Keep listeners entertained with a mix of news, reviews, music,
drama, humour etc.
- Encourage prodemocracy activists, and other concerned Nigerians to
contact the Radio Station with, suggestions, views, comments, material
etc.

WE NEED
Both Radio Freedom and Radio Democrat require broadcast material and
funds to maintain a regular broadcasting schedule and the Radio
stations welcome the submission of scripts, recordings any ideas and
donations that listeners and supporters may have.

An urgent requirement is funding. A year of daily broadcasting can
cost up to One Million US dollars. We are currently broadcasting only
an hour per day to conserve funds. We would like to increase our
broadcasting time as well as make sure there is a guaranteed
broadcasting facility for the future.

Contributions can be sent to Nalicon USA or UK. The cheques should be
made out to Nalicon Trust Fund and endorsed on the back with the word
'Radio'.

WE URGE

ALL PRODEMOCRACY GROUPS TO MAKE CONTACT WITH RADIO DEMOCRAT, TO KEEP
US INFORMED OF YOUR ACTIVITIES, SEND US FEEDACK AND COMMENTS AND TO
LIAISE WITH US IN MAKING SURE THIS STATION CONTINUES TO BE THE
AUTHENTIC VOICE OF THE PRODEMOCRACY MOVEMENT
