Hi there and Sorry for the delay in getting an issue out to you, but we
have been very busy here in New Zealand, and also had problems with the
Computor - which does not help.
Also it was pointed out to us that the last edition was incorrectly
labeled as Volume Six - Number one, It should of course been VOLUME
SEVEN - NUMBER ONE - our thanks to ALL who noticed ( and there were a
few ).This weeks is VOLUME SEVEN - NUMBER TWO.
Radio JEMIMA will broadcast Next Sunday from 06.30 utc on 7475 khz USB,
and there will be a relay via Radio Jemima of KIWI Radio.

MEDIAZOO:
MediaZoo/CMR commemorates 30th Anniversary of the MOA on 14 August
London 15 July 1997 - It has already been announced that the MediaZoo is
to swap nights in August, from Wednesday to Thursday 14 August, in order
to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Marine Offences Act (MOA).
The Marine Offences Act, when it came into force, was designed to stop
all off-shore radio transmissions involving UK Citizens. It was expected
that the passing of such a law would silence all off-shore radio
emanating from the North Sea. However, time has shown that not only did
the
MOA fail in its original intentions, but it also served as a constant
reminder, to listeners of the day, that their favourite radio stations
has been closed by legislation.
Eric Wiltsher said, "The passing of the MOA is probably one of the most
remembered segments of the UKs radio scene. As many said at the time -
if you remove something at its height, then it will be remembered for a
long time to come. And that has been the case from within the radio
industry and listeners alike".
Wiltsher added, "This is why MediaZoo is proud to commemorate the
passing of the MOA together with being able to air many sound-bites
[Digitally re-mastered] from the pioneers of commercial radio in the
UK".
>From 6.00pm till 8.00pm CMR will be playing a mix of music, produced by
Station Manager Bryan Chalker, reflecting the sounds of the 1960s.
Hosting the show will be one of CMRs younger presenters, Dave Rhodes.
Dave commented, "It will be strange playing vinyl, in reality I think
I've only done so a couple of times in my life. But, I know with Bryan
producing the show it'll be fine. It will also be a honour for me to be
involved in this 6 hour extravaganza. And yes, I do know a lot
about the MOA and I also know, from the outline of the show, that the
MediaZoo MOA Special will be a fitting tribute the radio broadcasters of
the 60s".
Bryan Chalker said, "I'm sure that everyone will enjoy the MediaZoo
tribute to off-shore radio. And having heard some of the clips, many of
our listeners will be interested to hear the hosts of Country
shows from 30 years ago. But radio has always been about music and as
such it will be great fun to have a vinyl only radio show, hosted by
Dave, being aired as the build up to our Special night. I know both our
existing our new listeners will enjoy this special production".

* Just for a note in your agenda: On Thursday 14th of August Radio
Netherlands English Service will be having a special in Media Network
on the fact it's than 30 years ago the the Marine Offences Act became
law with the purpose to closedown most of the offshore radio stations
off the British coast. Of course we all know the dramatic closedowns
of stations like Radio London, Radio 270 and Radio Scotland, but we
also know that several other radio stations came on the air after the
MOA as well as Caroline stayed on the air in August 1967.
In the programme Jonathan Marks will look back on the sixties radio,
together with Andy Senneth and Hans Knot.

OFFSHORE??:
Radio London latest: New ship is a 500 tone
coaster built in 1964 called "Yeoman ?? (something)
The ship is believed to come from somewhere in Kent
and was to be moved up to Walton ? on Saturday July 12th
for fitting out as a radio ship. The station is due on air
this coming Friday July 18th, which means they have just
six day's to do all the fitting out work. Extending the forward
mast and erecting another mast near the stern to hang a
'T' aerial. Studios are to be built into some kind of porterkabin
and dropped into the hold of the vessel. Installing of the transmitter
and all the electrical wiring has also to be taken into account.
If anyone has heard 1134kHz of a night you will see that it is not
the best if frequencies to use.

Radio London Latest.
The MV "Yeoman Rose" home for the RSL station Radio London
for the next 28 days sailed from her fitting out base at the Isle of
Sheppy in Kent at 1100 BST today (Thus) and as I write is on route
to the Essex coast. The trip should take around seven hours which
means she should arrive of off Walton between 1900/2000 hrs this
evening. The engineers on board have nicked named the ship
the "Roman Nose" according to reports.
Reception of the station will be heard over a wider area than I
previously
reported ! Don't ask me how I know, I just do ;>)
Transmissions start at 0600 hrs tomorrow on 1134Khz AM.

Other legal Offshore stations of the past.
Offshore Radio 1584 (Summer 92) Was the first offshore RSL
to be given a license by the UK Government and put on air by
the "Caroline Movement" for the 25th Anniversary of the MOA
of 1967. Fitted out, maintained and run by Landbased pirates
on the former Caroline sightseeing ship and tender "Galexy"
off the Essex coast, and held together by string and chewing-gum
for 28 day's.
Radio Caroline (Summer 95) Granted a license to operate
off the Essex coast from the only fully fitted-out and last of the
European offshore radio ships "Ross Revenge" for 28 day's.

PIRATE RADIO STATION PLUNDERS POWER
FROM M25 KEEP LEFT SIGN

A pirate radio station set up operation beside the M25 and
tapped into the power supply of a motorway traffic island
keep left sign. The station, Radio Free London, had hidden
it's aerial and transmitter in woods alongside the M25, but
was discovered when a passing motorist reported the aerial
as a possible terrorist device. The equipment was found after
the motorway was closed by police in a security operation.
The incident is highlighted in a new report which reveals that
pirate radio stations are booming in London. Last year there were
842 raids on pirate stations across the country-a 30 per cent
increase-of which 732 were on stations in London.
Colin Richards, enforcement officer for the Radio Communications
Agency, the DTI's "pirate busters" said the increase was mainly
due to an interest in alternative music.
"All pirate stations are music-based and I think some are putting
out music which they feel is not represented on the licensed channels"
said Mr.Richards.
"These stations can interfere with emergency channels used by the police
and fire brigade, and channels used by long distance pilots."
"Many of these stations operate from the roofs of council housing
blocks.
This year three different pirate stations-London Underground FM, Climax
FM and C FM-were broadcasting simultaneously from every tower block on
the Beaumont Road estate in Waltham Forest.
Some councils have installed sophisticated security systems and alarms
at
the top of tower blocks in a bid to defeat the pirates. The agency said
pirate stations went to extraordinary lengths to avoid being shut down,
often using ingenious home made devices.
One station hid it's transmitter in a sewage pipe, another put a
transmitter
in a traffic cone attached to the moving lift in a tower block. Others
have been found in biscuit tins and saucepans.
