 CPC DX tests summary

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
*-*-*-

Lynn Hollerman - gmholler@xxxxxxxxxx

PLEASE NOTE: Even if you don't hear a test, be sure and drop a card,

trouble
to run a test!

terribly
difficult or time consuming position; if you can volunteer, please,
please,
PLEASE do!! (you can e-mail me for more info!)

HOT NEWS IS WCMQ now on 1700 !!!!!

Chris - cdunne@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

This may not be news to some of you, but it sure is to me. Just got
off
the line talking to Ralph Chambers, CE of WCMQ 1210. He told me that
WCMQ
is to move to 1700 in the expanded band THIS COMING TUESDAY. A shocker
to
me. I knew they were on the XB list, but I did not think it would start
so
soon!
FWIW, they'll be AM stereo, but of course, you'll have to get that
special Sony walkman for that. I doubt it'll be heard in Cuba, because
I'm
sure their radios for AM don't have expanded band yet. Don't tell Arnie
Coro, or else Fidel will be hard at work jamming the thing.
Anyway, 1210 will still be here, as a one-on-one Sports station.
They'd
be more profitable OFF THE AIR. ;)
So, get ready DXers...I am sure Ralph would appreciate the reports.
Sincerely

...

Jay Novello - jay@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

1700 WCMQ FL Miami Springs - 11/2 2225 - CP On the air, // 1210.
10 to 30 over S9 here in North Carolina; hard to believe
this is only 1000 watts. (JN-NC)

...

Robert Wien - rjwmail@xxxxxxxxx

WCMQ-1700 Miami, FL. is now on the air per call from Larry Godwin (some
of
you may get a call from Larry!)... Just wanted to pass this onto
everyone,
it is now Sunday night 11/2 at 8:42 PM PST... I haven't checked myself
yet
but will tonight!

...

Larry B. Godwin - lbg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

On Bob Wien's tip, last night (Sunday November 2) I heard WCMQ-1700 in
Miami, FL with a strong signal around 2300 EST. It broadcasts in
Spanish
and had a talk format. ID was "CMQ en Miami."

...

Charles Boehnke - ccb@xxxxxxxxx

Receved what I'm sure was WCMQ 1700 in Spanish with fair signal at 1100
UTC
11/3/97. Some QRM from JFK or San Diego?
Chuck Boehnke - Keaau, Hawaii, Icom R71A, 200 foot long wire.

...

Lee Freshwater - Ocala FL - LFreshwate@xxxxxxx

NOTE TO ALL: WCMQ is now on the air. Heard here in Ocala, FL at 5 PM
local
time, with fair to good signal strength. Was supposed to sign on this
Tuesday, so it caught us by surprise, Thanks to all who e-mailed with
info.
If the rest of the issued CP's did the same "pre-construction" that WCMQ
did, this will make for a most "interesting" DX season. For a list of
CP
issued for the expanded band, check out:

http://members.aol.com/bcblogbook/main.htm
Go to the 1610-1700 section.

...

Christopher S. Dunne - cdunne@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Folks:
WCMQ is already running on 1700 kHz on & off today, and should go
totally to 1700 tomorrow.
I was listening for a few minutes today, and it reminded me that I
should give some help for you outside south FL as to what to listen
for...
IF MONITORING TONIGHT (MONDAY): Listen for many paid political ads,
because we have an election Tuesday for mayor. Those of you who speak
Spanish can correct me on the following...
Spanish for mayor is ALCANCE (all-KAHN-say)...Vote is "vote" or
"vota"
depending if noun or verb...Listen for the names Alex Penelas, Xavier
(pronounced like "Javier") Suarez, Joe Carollo (kah- ROH-yo), and
others.
Of course, tomorrow is the election, so there should be many
tallies...
IN THE FUTURE, listen if not at top of the hour for simply "CMQ" in
Spanish, no W in slogan, and if you miss full ID at the top of the hour,
listen for "SBS" news.
Also, WCMQ is the Spanish flagship station for the Fla. Marlins
baseball
(too late to listen for that!) & Panthers hockey (probably the ONLY
station
carrying the hockey). They may say "Panteras" instead of Panthers...

...

Robert S. Ross - radiorob@xxxxxxxxx

Tonight on the way home from work I was able to hear the New Miami
Station on 1700 Khz from my car.......not bad considering I am in
CANADA!!!!
The signal was quite good with little fading. Receiver was a Delco Car
Radio
whip standard whip antenna. Details are below.......

1700 WCMQ Miami, FLA. Nov/04/97 1858-1910 EST VG Spanish 2 Male
DJ's
speaking SS at Tune in. 1858 EST. Talk about "Embargos" and the
"Courts".
Spot for "Miami Fusion Soccer" @1901. Fanfare at 1901...Man spoke over
Music. Jingles etc. ID as "CMQ" at 1903. Long tx in SS by Male
DJ...mentions
"Florida, Miami Beach, and Havana". Into Salsa Music and ID as.."Este Es
CMQ". Mention of the Florida Marlins.

New Station for Me......Tried for it last night on the Collins 651S-1
and 80
meter dipole..and couldn't hear it!! Drive around in the car 1500 miles
from
the station....and BANG..there it is!!!

Maybe this Never Happened ??? (WH-CO) Any comments from Texas?

1450 WCLM? VA, Highland Springs 10/16 0700 Appears to be back on

I just got back from a DX-pedition to Sheigra in Scotland with one
mystery
UNID that you might be able to help with.

The latest NRC AM log gives no clues.

UNID on 1020kHz 1115 UTC carrying 1 on 1 Sports. At this time reception
from WA, BC and AB was dying and Alaska was opening (at 1121UTC I
heard
  KIAK Fairbanks)

I tried phoning KAXX 1020 as listed in NRC log but phone number is
someone's
private no. Also the operator could not find a number for this station.
Is
it on air? Does it carry 1on1 sports? Or does someone else on 1020?

I am not quiet sure wheather they do answer. Nothing learnt from the
