	For those still using printers such as the Epson FX80, there is a 
ROM in the printer that can be accessed for the diacritical markings by
sending a 3-digit code in the text.  I use this with WordPerfect 5.1 on
a regular basis.
	With the Windows programmes, I have a small file called "diacrit"
which has all of the diacritical characters.  It saves the time and
effort of looking for them in the table(s).
	Diacritical characters are not limited to Portuguese, Spanish,
etc.  They were common in Englished but have been dropped over the years.
They still appear in the Oxford and other "proper" English dictionaries
such as Chambers.
