stages}

WORLD OF RADIO NOW ON WBCQ. Wednesdays 2200 on 7415. Thanks to
Al Weiner for inviting us on!

WORLD OF RADIO ON RFPI: To accomodate Pacifica News at 0400-0430
UT Tue-Sat, our Fri-Sat airings have moved half an hour earlier:
Fri 1930, Sat 0330, 1130, as has CONTINENT OF MEDIA preceding it
at Fri 1900, Sat 0300, 1100. All repeats are now 8 hours apart,
so UT Sun times are 0200, 1000; on some of: 21460-USB, 15049,
6975.

WORLD OF RADIO ON WWCR: During Dec, Jan, and Feb, our first
broadcast Thu at 2130 is on 9475 instead of 15685.

WORLD OF RADIO ON WGTG: On UT Sun Nov 29, WOR aired at 1800 on
9400-USB but not at 0030.

THIS WEEK ON WORLD OF RADIO 967. For topic summary see
http://www.angelfire.com/ok/worldofradio/Wor967.html

CANADA. Reception from CBC Northern Quebec service on 9625 has
been so poor for years that I was quite surprised to find a loud
and clear signal during the 0500 hour, so the classical music
on "That Time of Night" could even be enjoyed, especially Nov 26
and also when checked Dec 2 (Glenn Hauser, OK)

COSTA RICA. RFPI has a new 5-minute "Chiapas Daily News" M-F 2155,
Tu-Sat 0555 [not 0505 as on VISTA tape], and 1355. R. Habana
Cuba's Caribbean Desk Coordinator Eugen Godfried from Curacao
is interviewed on "Steppin' Outta Babylon", Fri Dec 4 at 2230,
Sat 0630, 1430 (Glenn Hauser, OK)

CZECH REPUBLIC [non]. Is the R. Prague relay via WRMI still
going on? All I can hear on 9955 at 0400, such as Dec 3, is Cuban
jamming, with traces of some talk underneath it. Is WRMI still
really using its NW antenna after 0400? What possible national
interest of Cuba is served by deliberately ruining an English
broadcast from Prague to North America? (Glenn Hauser, OK)

GREECE [and non]. For B-98, VOG has expanded its morning
broadcast to NAm to a full 2 hours, 1200-1400, so English news
has moved later from 1340 to 1350, on 9690 via Delano; 9420,
12105, 15175 direct (John Babbis, MD, Oct 26 via Hauser)

SWITZERLAND [non]. SRI English at 1400 heard on surprising new
frequency 21645, Sun Nov 29, and not heard on listed Sottens
15185 (Joe Hanlon, PA) But this must have been a mistaken feed
input at French Guiana, where RFI in Spanish is normally heard
(Hauser)

U S A. The AFN USB relays via Key West are continuing, altho
unreliably and intermittently, on the 4, 6 and 12 MHz
frequencies as before, still as of Dec 2 (Glenn Hauser, OK)

OKLAHOMA. KOKB, 1580, Blackwell, is supposed to cut to 40 watts
at night, but noted here dominating frequency amid heavy
multi-station skywave QRM, Dec 2 at 0200 UT with local ads, 0300
silly BKB game; and also the next night, with an ID revealing
now duplicated on 1020 from Perry OK. I conclude KOKB has been
running day power of 1000 watts at night, long past the flood
emergency.

Elk City OK on 1240 is back on the air, judging from low het
against Wichita in daytime; Clinton OK 1320 is still off the
air.

Vance AFB TIS on 1610, which had been 24h NSP with 3-minute loop,
became irregular, and since late November has been missing
altogether, allowing 1610 again to be an open DX frequency here
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, OK)

TEXAS. Amarillo has a new TIS on 1610, heard when passing through
there Nov 17, "WQO552, Amarillo, 1610 AM, Texas Department of
Transportation" ID every 40 seconds! constantly interrupting relay
of NWS' WXK38 162.55 MHz, which is on the KVII ch 7 tower. 1610
was especially strong around the AMA airport on the NE side (Glenn
Hauser, TX)

LONG-HAUL FM DX FROM CARIBBEAN TO SOUTHERN BRAZIL

This DXer uses a portable or car radio, away from his home city to
escape local QRM; this typically happens only in October and April
in the 2300-2400 UT hour; referred to as "tropospheric" but I'm
quite certain this is ionospheric trans-equatorial scatter (gh)
