Further to Bob's comments:

Make sure that your charger is suitable for gel cells.  Some of the better
chargers have internal switches to switch between gel cells and standard
lead acid.

We use gel cells at work, and found that even 14.05 volts charging potential
shortened the battery life immensely.  I believe our present system uses
13.8 volts, and the survival rate is better.
