 CPC DX test Results

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

Lynn Hollerman - gmhollerman@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Here's the results of the most recent DX tests that have been received
here:

CHUC-1450, Cobourg, ON tested Saturday, March 6, 1999 from 12:00-6:00 am
ET:

J.D. Stephens in Madison, AL says he was happily amazed to pick up this
test between 12:30 and 1:30 ET on a Drake R8 with a Kiwa loop. He said
the signal strength at his QTH was fair at best. Steve Francis, in
Alcoa, TN, reports he heard the test weakly at about 12:39, with about a
half-minute of code. Gordon Bell in Melrose, NY heard the test on a
Kenwood R-5000 with a E/W random wire at about 2:21 with a clear CW ID.

KIML-1270, Gillette, WY tested Monday, March 8, 1999 from 2:00-5:00 am
ET:

Bill Hale, NRC CPC chairman, reported that the CE of this station told
him that it wasn't likely that this test would run, due to the bad
weather in WY. Tim Hall of Chula Vista, CA says that he tried for the
test, but heard only KDJI, KTFI, and an UNID station playing C&W through
local XEAZ null.

KSDR-1480, Watertown, SD tested Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at :59:50
after each hour:

No reports of this test received.

WQSN-1660, Kalamazoo, MI tested daily thru March, 1999 with CW IDs at
the top of each hour:

No reports of this test received.

That's all for now...

 HOT STUFF

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

**Craig Rathbone - Denver CO - DXer@xxxxxxx - FYI

3/10/99. For anyone who has KOA 850 as a pest, they are OC right now at
2300 EST and have been for the past 45 minutes. Dont know what is wrong
or how long it will last.

3/10/99. At 2320 EST Denver's KTLK 760 is off the air. KFMB is booming
in here, that is about it, with WJR underneath. KOA is still Open
Carrier.

***

**Dennis Gibson - dcgibson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sounds like power problems in Denver tonight. You'd think a couple of 50
KW stations would have backup power. KFMB really does kick butt with
that 50 KW nights. They're only 5 KW days, however. Their night pattern
has a huge null towards Denver; I'm surprised they're doing that well
there. Of course, patterns don't always work like they should.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

**Craig Rathbone - Denver CO - DXer@xxxxxxx - FYI

I can't really be sure but it does sound to me like KDAZ 1550 in
Denver is running much higher power than their listed 166 watts all
night recently. So if you need that one you might try for them. They
are // KDDZ 1690 Denver R. Disney. Their listed day power is 10 kw.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

Charles Taylor - Charles_Taylor@xxxxxxxxxxxx

WNCT-1070 Greenville, NC has been noted carrying Dr. Laura Schlesinger
up til 1200 EST. Could be they are trying to acquire an audience?
If experience is any guide, by the time they DO get a few
listeners, they'll realize their error and go to a new format; such
as "WNCT hits of the 20s, 30s, and 40s!" (CAT/WD9INP/NC)

WRUU, Elizabeth, New Jersey. QTH Beverly, MA; my equipment was my car
radio; SINPO all 5's!

Pat Martin - Seaside OR - mwdxer@xxxxxxxxx

KKTR-1650 is now back to Adult Standards. I wonder if the call letters
will change.

***

**Dennis Gibson - dcgibson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I heard them ID yesterday as KGXL Costa Mesa-Los Angeles, the old call
letters and city of license (unless somebody messed up and played the
wrong ID). They're back to calling it the "new KGIL", which is what they
called it before when they were KGXL. I'll check the next TOH ID and see
what they say.

**Albert Lehr - Livermore, CA - ALehr@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

During the day I've been hearing a weak TIS on 1250 with the Madera
station nulled. It is mostly unreadable - too much splatter from
KOIT-1260. They have announcements by a woman in EE and by a man in SS.
Their frequency is low, ranging from 1249.949 to 1249.962 kHz. Bearing
seems to be northeast or southwest of my location. They give their call
letters, but all I can get is the "W" at the start. Any idea who this
is?

**Richard Toebe - Concord CA - richtoebe@xxxxxxx

According to Bill Harms's TIS website, there's a WPMA702, operated by
the city of Lodi, on 1250 kHz. That would certainly be NE of you.

***

**Patrick M. Griffith

Bill Harm's wonderful TIS Digest shows a WPMA702 on 1250 licensed to the
City of Lodi. For some reason it does not appear on the FCC TIS
database.

this frequency. Does it sound like it?

Yoshioka who I presume also wrote the enclosed letter... and to
       quote...
"Thank you for sending us a precise, accurate reception report. We
always appreciate hearing from our listeners, and enjoy sending
QSL cards very much. We regret to tell you, however, that you
heard one of our domestic broadcasts for which we do not usually
send verification cards. Your reception report shows that you
have tuned in to our domestic mediumwave broadcast, transmitted
       from standby/emergency transmitters."
"We will verify your report of Apr. 29 1998 exceptionally, but we
would like to request you to send a report of our overseas

I also got my taped report returned to me from Nagpur. I also sent it
registered. Cost me $10.65. Where do I do from here? Maybe an E Mail to
AIR-Delhi? I guess I could phone Delhi.....Ideas anyone?

***

**Bill Harms - wharms@xxxxxxxxx

Try sending your report directly to New Delhi.

***

**Pat Martin - Seaside OR - mwdxer@xxxxxxxxx

The reason I sent my report to Nagpur was that Delhi has not been
replying to reports for quite sometime. My QSL from Shillong-864 came
from Delhi back in 1992.

It isn't that they didn't reply. That is not the problem. The registered
taped report was not claimed. I sent it out on 2/24 and I got it back
3/15. Really odd. I wonder if they have to pay duty on that. I don't get
it.
I have an E Mail letter out to AIR-Delhi. Maybe they will reply. 73s,

P.S. Delhi answered my Shillong-864 report with a QSL card in 92.

I'd like to hear from anyone who uses or has used a Yaesu FRG-7700. They
came out when I was kid, but I couldn't afford one. Now I have the
chance to pick up a clean used one with the optional memory unit. I'd
like to hear how it does for AM DXing as well as shortwave, ham,
utilities, etc. Over the years, I've heard mainly good things about it.
Thanks!
