DAVID  J. VALKO - SAGUARO DXPEDITION REPORT. I'm back in PA once again
after 6 days in sunny hot southern Arizona. As is the  case whenever I'm
on vacation, I take the trusty NRD-535D receiver along. The QTH was a
Bed & Breakfast in eastern Tucson AZ.  Antenna was a 190 foot longwire
with a slight elbow and running slightly west of due south out over the
Mesquite trees and cacti.

0008- 11949.9- USA- WINB, Red Lion PA, 0008, Address at 0014 by man.
Very good signal. Definitely sounds likes its beamed to C.A.  as they
claim. Stronger in AZ than 140 miles away back in Dunlo PA!! (Valko,

0010- 15048.9- COSTA RICA- R. for Peace Int., 0010, Fair, clear, and
100% copy. Not as strong as Mexico 9705 though. (Valko,  DXPEDITION USA
28 May)

0016- 3493.4- BOLIVIA- R. Em. Padilla (fqy var.)  0016 Tentatively this
one with talk in Spanish alternating with disco rhythms every  2-3
minutes. Announcement at 031 may have included "Alfonso Padilla," but
the tape was inconclusive. Audio sounded like mistuned  SSB on the upper
sideband and nothing, or almost nothing, on the lower. Drifted
continually upwards to 3493.7 by 0038. Weak, QRN.  (Hill, USA June 2)

0059- 11715.4- EGYPT- R. Cairo, 0059, Talk by man in SP, AR instrumental
music, 5+1 time ticks, then ID by woman which I couldn't fully  copy.
Cairo sked here in SP at this time so obviously them. Canada came on at

0100- 4800.7- MEXICO- XERTA, Started coming in just prior to 0100 (6:00
PM local AZ time). Not heard in the mornings at all and  didn't check at

0100- 6184.97- MEXICO- R. Educacion, 0100-0123, Sounded like live SP
Jazz music. Deadair. Woman announcer talk over music and  continued
without the music and played some actualities. Finally ID at 0121.
Gradually getting better as the Sun was sinking. 100% copy  at tune out.

0100- 4904.72- PERU- Radio La Oroya, 3th June, 0100, with Andean
Music/time checks and Id, SINPO 32222. (Vos, The Netherlands)

0125- 5952.54- UNID- R. Pio Doce??, 0125-0207, Long SP tlk by 2 men and
woman, 0200 canned announcements by man with music.  Just couldn't copy,
and too mucy slop QRM from 5950. I find it hard to believe this would be
Pio Doce, but the freq and time matches up. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 1
June)

0130- 6010- MEXICO- R. Mil, 0130, Break for full canned ID by man after
LA Pop music. Also heard the usual short 4 note ID jingle  between

0200- 6949.9- PIRATE SOUTH AMERICA- L Radio Blandengue via the
facilities of Radio Cochiguaz, South America, 0200 - 0246,  Spanish,
Musical Program (South, Central American and Eastern Island Music), ID
in Spanish, English and Italian, announce address in Merlin, ID " Usted
esta sintonizado con Radio Blandengue, You are listen Radio Blandengue,
Questa e Radio Blandengue" SINPO  34333, May 30, (Eramo, Argentina)

0209- 6479.80- PERU- Radio Altura 0209. Spanish. Peruvian folklorica
vocals to DJ's "echo-effect" Altura ID at 0210.  Accordian music to
0214, ID repeat, monitored to 0225. (Van Horn, USA 5/30)

0231- 17895.14- PAKISTAN- Radio Pakistan 0231 Supposed slow-speed
English news, read by woman (was actually read pretty fast for  SSNx)
until 0244. ID: "General Overseas Service of Radio Pakistan" and short
tone, then dead air at 0245. Signal strength erratic at  times, but
gaining strength at 0240. Noted parallel at 15485.22. (Fine, USA 01 Jun)

good at s/on but hammered after 1100 by REE/15170 slop.  IS from
co-channel KTWR heard weakly underneath at 1057 (they're sked *1100 in

1135- 4874.5- INDONESIA- RRI Sorong, 1135-1154:20*, Program of pleasant
Indo lagu with woman host. Went off in mid-song at  1154:20. So don't
expect to hear a sign off routine from this one. Very strong. Good,

1141- 5039.98- INDONESIA- RRI Pekanbaru, 1141, Woman talk over music

1142- 3960.3- INDONESIA- RRI Palu, 1142-1202, Tlk by woman in what
sounded like IN. Indo lagu on recheck 1156, woman at  1159, into SCI,
woman w/RRI ID and Jakarta news relay. Weak with QRM from 3959.7 North

1145- 6149.41- THAILAND- Thai Palace Station (tent.), a het here again
at 1145. Can't get any audio. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 1 June)

1200- 6003- CLANDESTINE- R. Echo of Hope (pres.), 1200, In CH or similar
language with talks by woman, brief music bridge, then man and woman
talking. Fairly decent signal. Heard to at least 1330 on 31 May as well.

1202- 5979.38- MALAYSIA- R. Malaysia, Kota Kinabalu (pres.), 1202-1210,
News by woman in Bahasa Malaysian with many  mentions of Sabah. Into
soft music. No ID heard. Did hear this everyday. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA

1203- 5984.86- MEXICO- R. Mexico Int., *1203(??)-1212, Dead air at 1201
tune in, start of easy Ranchera music at 1203. Choral NA  at 1206, full
ID by man in SP at 1207, then several other canned IDs with sked. EG ID

1204- 4894.98- MALAYSIA- R. Malaysia, Kuching, 1204, Man with news in
Bahasa Malaysian including ID at 1204. Fair with het  QRM. (Valko,

1205- 2390- UNID-  Obviously either Huayacocotla or Atitlan at 1205.
Just a very weak signal. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 28 May)

1209- 3224.83- INDONESIA- RRI Tanjungpinang, 1209-1218, Jakarta news
relay ending with man giving many "RRI" Jakarta IDs,  woman with ID at
1218 and immediately off. Weak. All Indo outlets were carrying the
Jakarta news relay at this time except 9525  (different program), and
the ones that weren't on (3214, 3231, 6153, and 4875). (Valko,

1210- 3231.98- INDONESIA- RRI Bukittinggi (tent.), 1210, Music followed
by woman announcer at 1216. Very very weak and heard  just this one day
only. (Valko 28 May)

1211- 5039.98- INDONESIA- RRI Pekanbaru, 1211-1221, Some sort of canned
announcement by man over Bagimu Neg'ri with many  many mentions of RRI,
continued Jakarta news relay ending at 1215 with vocal Bagimu Neg'ri.
Studio man announcer at 1218 with ID  and announcement mentioning FM.
Talk by man briefly and into soft Indo lagu at 1220. Fair and good.

1212- 3325- INDONESIA- RRI Palangkaraya, 1212-1218, End of Bagimu
Neg'ri, deep voiced man. Canned announcement by woman  with RRI ID and
piano choral song. Discussion by 2 woman. Fair on 30 May. Then on 31
May, 1223 end of Jakarta news relay with ID  by man, Bagimu Neg'ri, man
with extremely low modulation level, then music. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA)

1213- 3264.67- INDONESIA- RRI Gorontalo, 1213, Bagimu Neg'ri after
Jakarta news relay, man with Jakarta news announcement, ID,  talk, and
into Indo Pop music at 1215. Fairly good. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 28 May)

1221- 4766.16- INDONESIA- RRI Medan, was on at 1221, but not on the day
before.(Valko, DXPEDITION USA 2 June)

1221- 3985.78- INDONESIA- RRI Surabaya, 1221-1232, Soft Indo lagu, then
long canned play/talk between man, woman, and little  girl. Another
short announcement by woman with what sounded like mention of Surabaya,
then vocal song-jingle ad, Gamelan music,  and nice site ID by woman at
1230, followed by another "RRI" ID and freq. Fair w/3985 QRM. (Valko,

1230- 4789.14- INDONESIA- RRI Fak Fak went off sometime after Jakarta
news relay and 1230 check. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 2 June)

1231- 9525- INDONESIA- RRI Jakarta, 1231, Woman talk over piano, Bagimu
Neg'ri, then same woman with mention of democracy", "internasional", and
Jakarta. Into Indo Pop ballad. Pushing S-30!!!! (Valko, DXPEDITION USA
31 May)

1235- 6688.76- VIETNAM- Lao Cai ( tent.), 1235, A definite signal here
with woman talking in VT?? Distorted. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 28 May)

1240- 4696.55- INDONESIA- RKIP Surabaya (pres.), 1240, Weak but readable
with Gamelan music, woman announcer. (Valko,  DXPEDITION USA 31 May)

1248- 4980.24- UNID- Unid R., Something here at 1248, very weak with
music. Interesting in that I was hearing this on the east coast  when
Ecos del Torbes was absent there about a month ago. Way too weak to get
any clues. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 31 May)

1250- 7165- BANGLADESH- R. Bangladesh, 1250-1300*, man vocal music at
tune in, man and woman in EG with cultural program,  string and flute
music at 1258, ID at 1259 and possible address, then gone at 1300.
Fairly weak. No wonder this is nearly impossible on the east coast.

music at 1256. 6688.8 also on but both freqs too weak to //.  (Valko 31

1301- 3230- NEPAL- R. Nepal (pres.), 1301, tlk by W, very weak. Couldn't
// but there was something on 7164.31. There was definite  talk by man
announcer at 1303 on both freqs for sure, but // ??? (Valko, DXPEDITION
USA 2 June)

1305- 3344.76- INDONESIA- RRI Ternate, 1305-1319, Jakarta news by man
ending with Bagimu Neg'ri at 1316, ID announcement by  man at 1319, then
dead air. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 29 May)

1317- 15435- SAUDI ARABIA- BSKSA (Tent),  1317.Presumed Urdu service to
Asia from ARSRX000 schedule.  Announcer's text at tune-in. Intermittent
fades to signal peak by 1403 (SIO=433). Schedule notes Bengali service
to Asia  1400-1500, I monitored continuous slow paced Arabic music from
top of the hour, without breaks to 1459. Time tips, musical interlude to
Arabic news script at 1500. Scheduled to sign-off at 1500, but did not
as segments continued. Recheck 1512 on 11745 for presumed BSKSA French
service of segments and Arabic music. (Van Horn, USA 5/24)

1323- 9730.56- VIETNAM-  V.O. Vietnam (pres.), 1323, Must be the station
here with woman in Asian language. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 31 May)

1325- 3385- PAPUA NEW GUINEA- R. East New Britain, 1325, Man in EG with
countdown program (was at about song #7).  Returned at 1334, no
programming, just deadair. Weird that it would be on so late. (Valko,
DXPEDITION USA 29 May)

1330- 7270- MALAYSIA- R. One, 1330, Local bells music similar to
Gamelan. Bottom of the hour 2 time pips, man with ID  mentioning Kuala
Lumpur, and into the Koran. Good and clear. Still barely coming in at
1440. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 29 May)

1344- 7245- SINGAPORE- R. Singapore, 1344-1351, Talk by woman in Malay,
man with ID at 1347, then into Asian Pop music.  Another ID at 1350 by
man. Fair with QRM. (Valko, DXPEDITION USA 2 June)
