PANORAMA 2000

"The City as a museum, with the dom tower at the heart"

Panorama 2000 is the tittle given to an exhibition in Utrecht running
from 5th of june until 3rd of october 1999. Fifity artists were
invited to make a work of art that could be viewed from the city's
cathedral tower. The city itself becomes i9n art museum with the
cathedral at the centre. In the shadow of the tall tower, the city and
the works of art meet and mingle.All the ideas that contributed to

Radio Dom:

Remko Scha is an artist and a scientist. His scientific work is
concerned with computer programmes wich model language and perception.
Scha was one of the initiators of the institute  of artificial art
Amsterdam (IAAA), an institute wich aims at the complete
automatization of art production. In this context, scha often
collaborates with arthur elsenaar, an artist who employs technologies
from physiotherapy and radio engineering. For Panorama 2000 Sha and
Elsenaar developed the project "Radio Dom": a FM transmitter on
frequency 102.3 FM in Stereo and RDS, heard all over Holland, and
posible further?
A FM transmitter on the domtower, wich continually broadcasts the
sound of Utrecht as it can be surveyed on that location. To archieve
this, several computer controlled movable microphones will be
mountedon the top of the dom tower, wich is about 112 meters.
These microphones search for sounds in the city, the sounds
the find are mixed and broadcasted live on 102.3 MHZ from 5th
of June till 3rd october.
