WORLD OF RADIO, QRM TO WWCR: Hi Glenn, On Thurs 2130 the VoRUS
Spanish signal was not too strong, and I could follow the WoR progr,
but WWCR outlet still suffering from neighbouring channel 9480.
Today I heard GH WoR on 15685 1230-1300, but unfortunately VoTibet
from Dushanbe-TJK is hopping again around, now also on 15685.21 again
(ex 15640). And WWCR is on even xxxxx.00 ...
BUT the 210 Hertz heard like a buzzy noisy heterodyne signal. I
switched to LSB mode reception and could easily follow the WoR
program (Wolfgang Bueschel, Stuttgart, Germany, Feb 26)
** BANGLADESH The Bangladesh Betar External Services broadcast
English programme at 1230 on 7185 and 9557/8, but they announce the
2nd frequency as 9550. Bangladesh Betar Dhaka (Home Service)
broadcasts on 15520 from 1200. This programme includes a Weather
Report at 1250 in Bangla (Bengali) followed by English. (Rifat

** CHINA [non]. CUBA Bob Thomas and Glenn Hauser report in DXLD of
missing CRI relays from here, such as 9570 from 0100-0300. I did hear
CRI in English at 2320 on 5990, listed as Cuba. 9570 is untraced here
as well though (Hans Johnson, FL, Feb 20, Cumbre DX via DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** CONGO DR. 6713-USB, Radio Bukavu was off the air for nearly a year
and has been heard again Feb 26 at 1545 in French, then 1604 in
Swahili with news and reports followed with African Songs until 1633,
then back in French with ID and news bulletin, off at 1658 (Mahendra
Vaghjee, Mauritius, Electronic DX Press via DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CROATIA [non]. To: Mr. Guenter Hirte, Head of Deutsche Telekom
Juelich Station. Dear Mr. Hirte, many thanks for your today's phone
call re subject issue. As mentioned, I would suggest to
operationalise the following Schedule for HIC/DTK - transmissions in
the A00 Period (26.3.-29.10.2000):

** GERMANY. DW Gone Commercial. While monitoring DW at 1622 UTC
Saturday February 26, 2000 on 17730 kHz they had two ads. One for
Opel (General Motor cars) and another for long distance call rates of
DTK (Joe [Karthaus?], swltalk via DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GREECE. Glenn, Re my Media Network item on Voice of Greece quoted
in DXLD, Erik Koie in Denmark pointed out to me that the time I
mentioned, 2100, is local time. So English ought to be aired at 1900
UTC. Their Web site is very confusing. There's a complete shortwave
schedule, but no indication of the programming. For that you have to
go to the Inter Programme page, which is given in local time. 73,

** GREECE. The new schedule of the Voice of Greece to Europe: 1500-
2000 all programmes on MW 1386 & FM's 90.6 & 93.6 (both Athens).
1500-1800 on 792, 1386, 7475, 9375: 1500 in Russian. 1530 Bulgarian.
1600 Romanian. 1830 Serbian. 1700 Albanian. 1730 Polish. 1800-1900 on
1386, 9375, 12105. 1800 French. 1830 Spanish. 1900-2000 on 1386,
7475, 9375: 1900 Eng1ish, 1930 German. From 2000 in Greek (PanIview,

** IRAQ. Tnx to a tip from John Figliozzi on swprograms, RII heard in
English on 11787, UT Sun Feb 27 from 0225 tune in, hard to understand
woman with several talks separated by brief musical interludes; then
one by a man. Into open carrier at 0246, 0247 opening German! Strong
signal, but ME flutter, and a slight het. Still German past 0330;
0353 recheck open carrier, 0355 opening in French. 0447 recheck, unID
language, not Arabic. 0509 Qur?an with long pauses (an insult to all
Iraq`s non-Moslem citizens from a country failing to appreciate the
importance of separating church and state); 0530 in Arabic (Glenn

** IRAQ. It's most probably one of the 16 500 kW Thomson transmitters
that were installed at Salah El Deen in the 1980's. Most have been
silent since the Gulf War, despite Baghdad's claims that it had
refurbished them. Sawt al Jamaheer (Voice of the Masses) recently re-
started as a separate service, so it appears that they are gradually
getting more equipment back on the air (Andy Sennitt, Holland,

** IRELAND [non]. RTE is in a one-year experiment using Merlin only
for all its SW relays. Anyone who would like to comment on this
compared to coverage effectiveness via previous WWCR relays is

DIGEST)
** KURDISTAN. IRAQ The Voice of Iraqi Kurdistan - one of the two
radio stations of the official political opposition in Iraq (the
other one is Voice of the People of Kurdistan) is now with its new
transmitter on the air on short waves. Noted on February the 15th at
+O350-0530 on new 9495 kHz in parallel with 4085 kHz, as follows till
0500 in Arabic (announcing 3 frequencies, presumed one on medium
waves) then in Kurdish; on same day +1555-1830+ on new 7095 and 4085
kHz (in the 7 MHz hamband). On Feb 16th O350-0530 & +1335-1540+ was
only on 4085 or in parallel with unid frequency (PanIview, Bulgaria,
via DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** LIBERIA. ELWA, 4760 was subject of long interview with Cordell
Hogan, formerly of Liberia, now at HCJB`s transmitter manufacturing
facility in Elkhart IN. He installed the antennas which consist of 4
inverted V dipoles, broadbeam with main lobe at 57 degrees. The
transmitter and the power supply were also new designs, brought into
the country in one suitcase each (HCJB DX Partyline Feb 26 via DX
LISTENING DIGEST) BTW, Bob Zanotti`s piece on Liberia on this week`s
VOA CW indicates no non-government SW stations are allowed. So is
ELWA actually covert, unlicensed, clandestine? (gh, DX LISTENING

** NEW ZEALAND. Here is the RNZI Schedule that takes effect on March
19, 2000.

** OKLAHOMA. KOSU 91.7 has been promoting the official launch of its
worldwide audio streaming with some kind of ceremony, Wednesday March
1 at 1340 UT at http://www.kosu.org (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. Re: DXLD 00-30: There are only three channel 17s in
Oklahoma:
KDOR Bartlesville (3980KW/316m, transmitter in northwest Rogers Co.
with a shallow null (probably about 2000KW ERP) in the direction of
Enid. It's a TBN religious station.)
K17DH Weatherford (942 watts, programming unknown but believed to be
a translator of an OKC station)
K17EX OKC (37.1KW. Directional, direction unknown. I list it as
"religious" but such things change. The tower is roughly 20km
northeast of KTOU-LP. The power is considerably lower (37.1KW vs.
67.5KW for KTOU) but both stations are directional. KTOU favors the
north and east (48.5KW towards Enid); I don't know what K17EX's
directional pattern is. K17EX's antenna is 37m lower, but if its DA
pattern is favorable that probably won't matter (Doug Smith W9WI

** SA?UDI ARABIA. R. Riyadh heard in English between 1700 and 1735 on
15435, clashing with Libya, according to two reporters, one in
Sweden, one in England (HCJB DX Partyline Feb 26 via DX LISTENING

** SOMALIA. 7213V, The new radio station Radio Banaadir s/on at 1600
Feb 25 with organ music, then ID and announcement followed by recital
of koran then talk and songs. 1845 organ music, ID before news, then
ID again as Radio Banaadir Somalia ..... Africa ....Meterband....Then
again Radio Banaadir.... Africa and just after that African and
International news bulletin, ID after news and went off at 1900 after
recital of koran. Poor reception (Mahendra Vaghjee, Mauritius, DX
LISTENING DIGEST) It was on 7210 since the beginning of February and
now moved to 7213, probably will keep moving as all Somalia stns do

** SOMALIA. 7213V Radio Banaadir: This frequency might be a hint that
the long awaited station that bought its equipment in Germany late
last year has finally come on the air. If so, power should be around

** U K O G B A N I. RADIO FREE LONDON 15060.2 Feb 18 1832-2049 heard
at various times with IDs, jingles, mention of 19 mb frequency, music
by Bryan Adams, Deep Blue Something and Badfinger. (Wolfish-ONT)
15060 Feb 19 2030-2059 poor to fair with music by Yes, Roxy Music,
Free, Cliff Richard and The Sex Pistols. Various IDs and jingles too.

** U S A. Another screwup at a once great radio station, KOA, 850,
Denver. Checking for ABC Perspective at 1205 UT Sun Feb 27, heard
open carrier instead, which continued until 1233 as I strained to
hear the program amid heavy QRM on AFN 6458.5 USB instead. Then KOA
played some music starting with ``Sound of Silence``, yuk yuk, and
finally 1241 joined Perspective intermittently during Stossel rant
