Palestine Authority 'crackdown on broadcasters'

Israel radio says the Palestinian Authority has closed down a private
television station and arrested its director Samir Qumsayeh.

It said no reasons were given for the clampdown on the Al-Mahed station --
the third closure on a West Bank broadcasting outlet in four days.

An employee of the Voice Of Palestine radio station Fathi Barkawi was
reported to have been released on Friday after being held by the security
forces for six days.

Human rights groups have frequently spoken out against moves taken by the
Palestinian Authority against broadcasters who criticise its policies.
