Re: [HCDX] Drake R8 bandpass adjustment

Pat

I checked the R8A service manual, which includes alignment instructions.
I'm not sure how similar the R8A & R8 are in this respect but here's a
paraphrased version of how you do it on the 8A:

-Ground the center pin of the "Factory Test" connector. On the R8A, the
manual says this is P5. Unfortunately, they don't say which board it's
on, and there's a P5 on most every board! I'm guessing it's the
synthesizer/microprocessor board, due to the way the P5s on the other
boards are labeled, but I'd say a few prayers before I tried it.
According to the manual, this lets you use the main tuning knob to
change the PBT frequency instead of the receiver frequency
-Set the PBT knob to center position ("12:00")
-Press the VFO A/B button
-Inject a -73 dBm signal into the antenna 1 port, any frequency (or tune
in a local station if you don't have a signal generator). You may have
to do this before you ground P5 (see first step).
-Set mode to AM, bandwidth to 500 kHz, AGC to fast
-Rotate the tuning knob for maximum S meter reading
-Press V>M button to store
-Remove the jumper on P5

Good Luck!
