[HCDX] Fwd: Loggings from Victoria, etc.
A nice opening to Africa Saturday morning:
TANZANIA (ZANZIBAR) 11734.08 Very good reception of Radio Tanzania
Zanzibar at 16:49 in presumed Swahili. Very distinctive music, into
network news from Dar Es Salam at 17:00. Nice ID at 17:10 as "Radio
Tanzania Dar Es Salam", then into local programming with lots of mentions
of Zanzibar. Reception the following day not nearly as good. (Salmaniw,
Victoria, BC 27 January).
ANGOLA 7245 Looking for Tajikistan yields at least 3 stations on at
1700, with Radio Nacional Angola winning out today, over CRI in Russian
(which dominated the next day), and presumed Dushanbe a weak
third. Angola in Portuguese, with many mentions of Luanda. Didn't hear
any parallels. Last winter 11954.7 was heard regularly. One of the three
is a few Hz off, causing a low pitched het. (Salmaniw, Victoria, BC 27
January).
ZAMBIA 6265 Radio Zambia One with fish eagle IS, drums and into talk at
1558. Poor to fair. (Salmaniw, Victoria, BC 28 January).
MYANMAR 6570 presumed Defence Forces Broadcasting station, weakly heard
at 16:11. Best to use LSB to avoid some Ute interference on
USB. (Salmaniw, Victoria, BC 28 January).
IRAQ 11784.95 Radio Iraq International with Quran, then Arabic talk at
16:10. Fair reception. (Salmaniw, Victoria, BC 28 January).
JORDAN 11690.02 Radio Jordan at 16:13 tune-in, with excellent reception
with a request music program. Modern western music. "This is for all you
guys from Radio Jordan". Program is called LC, for Listeners Choice.
(Salmaniw, Victoria, BC 28 January).
KOREA (NORTH) 3559.87 Radio Pyongyang in English at
16:21. Poor. Parallels heard: 6520.18 (fair), 9975.07 (fair, over
cochannel). At 1644 heard their French program on 11709.84 slightly
overmodulated. Very good with philatelic program. (Salmaniw, Victoria,
BC 28 January).
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, DUBAI 13675 UAE Radio Dubai at 1625 with filler
music, due presumably to studio link break, as cut into English news at
16:31:30. Very good. Described riots in Zanzibar resulting in deaths of
22 people. Parallels 13630 was fair, and 15395 under cochannel VOA News
Now (this frequency not usually heard hear). Temperature in Dubai this
day was only 63 deg F. Back to Arabic service at 16:34. (Salmaniw,
Victoria, BC 28 January).
INDIA 15140 AIR in Russian at 16:35 fair to good, well over cochannel
(?HCJB), with news in Russian. (Salmaniw, Victoria, BC 28 January).
GERMANY 15485 At 1700, wonderful reception, with only a very minor echo
of programming of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United
Methodist Church. Very regionally sensitive programming. Started by
emphasizing the sad occurence in Congo with the death of Kabila. This day
was dedicated to mostly music, both inspirational and secular. All
sounding appropriate for Africa. This program is in stark contrast to the
"Americentric" programming of other religious groups. Worth listening
too. Parallel 13810 was good, with some splash from 13815. (Salmaniw,
Victoria, BC 28 January).
Good DX to you all!..........Walt.
