If I recall correctly, in the 1980s there were some discussions about
merging Senegal and Gambia into a single country to be known as
"Senegambia".

Did this plan ever advance beyond the proposal stage?  I've never seen
Senegambia on any map, so I presume it was never seriously considered by
either country.
