Hello there,

I am sending you this e-mail from Germany. I have just bought a Sony
Worldreceiver, ICF-SW100, for a very good price. What I did not know is that
Sony manufactured two different types of this model, one for North America
the other one for Europe (ICF-SW100 E). The strange thing I have noted when
switching the radion on is the very loud noise that is coming out of the
speaker when scanning the FM-band. I don`t receive any radio station on FM
at all and on AM I am only catching a hand full of radio stations. Does this
have to do with the different frequency steps in which both continents are
operating, i.e. in Germany we have frequencies on the FM-band like 89,5 Mhz.
I have another radio (Aiwa) which came with a switch. By using this switch I
can change between European and American frequencies but on my Sony there is
no such thing. My question now is, can anyone please tell me if there is a
way for me to make my new (actually used) Sony operating on the FM-band in
Europe, too. Maybe you know some specialist there.
I appreciate any hints.

Kind regards,

Joerg Mengwasser
