SOLAR FLARES  : Active (M-class flares expected, probability >= 50%)
GEOMAGNETISM  : Quiet (A<20 and K<4)
SOLAR PROTONS : Quiet

PREDICTIONS FOR 10 Aug 2003  10CM FLUX: 130 / AP: 012
PREDICTIONS FOR 11 Aug 2003  10CM FLUX: 127 / AP: 007

COMMENT: The solar wind speed is gradually decreasing. Over the past 24 hours
it went down from 750 km/s to 650 km/s, a trend that is expected to continue for
the next 24 hours. The interplanetary magnetic field is mostly northwards, so
that in spite of the still elevated solar wind speed, we expect geomagnetic
conditions to be quiet, with occasional excursions to active conditions. Solar
activity has been low again over the past 24 hours, with just 2 small C-flares.
Catania sunspot group 90 (NOAA 0424) has stopped growing but seems to be
developing magnetic complexity. C-class flares from this group seems almost
certain, and we now estimate that it has a significant chance for an M-flare as
well.
