RE: [HCDX] CBC Radio "HOT SHEET" FOR OCTOBER 18 & 19, 2003

I agree with you, Andy, but alas, there is nothing new
under the sun.
When I started DXing in the mid-50's - which means
that I am already part of this group of grumpy old men
- I noticed why certain non-DXers (i.e. they never
produced a listening tip) sometimes would win the QSL
collecting contests that were legion in club magazines
at the time just by sending report where they quoted
the World Radio Handbook. One example, which I heard
one lucky winner brag about (I can reveal his name and
the club, if anyone is interested...) was the Trinidad
Broadcasting Company which was on 3275 kHz at the
time. In order to obtain a QSL-card the following
detail, all obtainable from the WRH, would do, '02.00
station identification and relay of the news from the
BBC, and at 02.20 a programme of musical requests, at
03.00 close down.'
(I am quoting the programme info listed in the 1956
edition of the WRH).
