MBC appoints new President & CEO:
(23 February 05)
Korea's Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has appointed Choi Mun Soon 
as its new President and Chief Executive Officer as of 25 February, 
replacing Lee Keung Hee. Mr Choi was Director in the News Production 
Department before the promotion. He joined MBC in 1984 as a journalist, 
serving as MBC Labour Union Chief in 1995. Three years later, he became the 
first Chairman of National Union of Media Workers. MBC is an integrated 
multimedia public service broadcaster with access to 13.5 million 
households and 98 percent coverage in South Korea. (ABU Website)

Korea sets aside US$176m for broadcasting :
(23 February 05)
South Korea's Ministry of Information and Communication said recently that 
it will spend US$176.8 million this year to strengthen competitiveness in 
the country's broadcasting industry. The Korea Times reported that about 
one-third of the budget, or US$59 million, will be used to develop wireless 
communications and digital broadcasting technologies. Another US$30 million 
will be spent to encourage consumers to switch from analogue to digital 
television, the ministry said. (ABU Website)
