VOA Marks 63rd Anniversary :

The Voice of America has carried United States, regional, and world news to 
listeners around the globe for 63 years.  Founded less than three months 
after the United States entered World War II, the Voice has been a beacon 
of hope for those deprived of news. William Harlan Hale opened the first 
VOA broadcast on 24 February 1942 with the words, "The Voice of America 
speaks.  Today, America has been at war for 79 days.  Daily, at this time, 
we shall speak to you about America and the war  the news may be good or

KBS overseas service begins Vietnamese broadcast :

The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) has changed the name of its overseas 
service "Radio Korea International" to "KBS World Radio". The station is 
also launching another foreign language broadcast, targeting Vietnamese 
audiences. Listeners in Vietnam will be able to tune into KBS World Radio 
on 9640 kHz at 10am local time beginning 2 March. KBS said in a statement 
that the Vietnamese service was added to reflect the station's global 
mission and to meet the growing demand for news and information about Korea 
in South Asian countries. KBS World Radio first launched under the name of 
"Voice of Korea" in 1953. The station currently broadcasts across the world 
in Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Indonesian, Russian, 
Spanish, French, and German. The internet homepage of KBS World Radio 
(http://world.kbs.co.kr) will be operational from 3 March. (ABU Website)

Environment summit to pay tribute to evolutionist :

The International Media Environment Summit to be held from 30 November to 2 
December in Sarawak, East Malaysia, will pay tribute to the man who 
inspired Charles Darwin to shape the theory of evolution: Alfred Russel 
Wallace. The event will mark the 150th anniversary of Wallace's 
revolutionising essay titled "On the Law which has Regulated the 
Introduction of New Species" which he completed in 1855 in the Sarawak town 
of Kuching. It will bring together journalists, broadcasters, educators, 
environmentalists and scientists from all over the world to debate and 
share the latest "green" thinking and the best ways of bringing 
eco-messages to the public's attention. Topics on the summit's agenda 
include how to translate science into lay terms, the impact of human 
development on wildlife conservation, corporate responsibility, the costs 
of habitat loss, the challenges of telling marine stories, and the pros and 
cons of eco-tourism. The summit is being organised by News World Nature 
with the support of the ABU.
