[HCDX] Re: X4.1 FLARE PEAK 0952 UTC 17-I-2005
Some corrections to messages posted by Tomas, NW7US (AAR0JA/AAA0WA)
The flare in question was a long duration X3.8 event originating in region
10720. GOES-12, not GOES-10, is commonly used as the source for intensity
readings.
Two CMEs have been observed at ACE today, the first one arrived at 07:17
UTC. Its source was likely the full halo CME observed in association with
an M8 event in region 10720 on January 15. The second CME arrived at about
10:42 UTC and has larger significance. The source is probably the CME observed
after the X2 event in region 10720 late on January 15. As a result of the
second CME solar wind speeds in excess of 800 km/sec have been observed.
Major to severe geomagnetic storming is possible for the remainder of the
day.
