[HCDX] Pacific AM News
1035 Honiara runs BBC
Yes [re reception in Brisbane], 1035 is Honiara's SIBC. This overnight service
may make them audible in NZ's South Island also ('2ZB' is beamed almost due
north so 1035 is possible in Christchurch if '4ZB' 1044 is nulled).
Voice of Samoa 1179
A new station to DX is Voice of Samoa, Auckland on 1179 AM. Programs are in
Samoan language, using 1kW, the old Ruia Mai frequency and transmitter. Nothing
else known about them at this stage.
Old 2YC 657 tower demolished
Heritage item of interest is that the old 657 AM tower ('2YC' now Parliament
and Southern Star)at Titahi Bay was demolished earlier this month. It was 122m
high, built in 1949 and pulled down because of corrosion. More economic to
build a new tower than fixing it. New tower is 133m and should be up by the end
of April, just in time for the daytime DRM tests during the international
symposium on DRM taking place in Wellington April 27-29.
PAL on-line and searchable
Reminder to everyone that the PAL [Pacific Asia Log] is available for free
download, and also for on-line search at www.radioheritage.net. Lots of recent
Kiwi changes so check back regularly for updated versions.
Coast scores big Auckland ratings upset
TRN's new 'babyboomer' brand, Coast, has scored an impressive 3rd placing in
the latest Auckland ratings. No more than two ads in a row, long news bulletins
and limited ad breaks per hour plus an easy listening 1960's-1980's music
playlist ranging from Frank Sinatra and Tom Jones, to Linda Ronstadt and The
Seekers is proving a very successful formula.
Heard on AM via Hawke's Bay 1530, Christchurch 1593 and Dunedin 954.
