[HCDX] Armed Forces Radio Alaska

Armed Forces Radio Alaska
--------------------------
Cool news. The Radio Heritage Foundation's www.radioheritage.net
website has added rare new material about AFRS broadcasting in Alaska.
There's a detailed list of some 40 stations that were on air during
WWII and through the 1950's, as well as photos of WXLJ Cold Bay and
WVUG Fort Greely in the 1940's.
February 2006 marks the 65th anniversary of the very first AFRS
broadcasts, from KRB Sitka, followed soon after by KODK Kodiak. This
article is released to encourage people with more information about
any of these long gone stations to share their stories at
www.radioheritage.net.
The first such personal story is entitled 'The Suggestive Sounds of
WVUG Anchorage', and DJ Don Purvis spins tales from his 1946-47 time
at the station, and shares some great old photos of WVUG 1450 AM.
Read about how local female telephone operators helped make WVUG a
very popular and listened to radio station, driving local military
police crazy in the process.
'AFRS Alaska' and 'WVUG Anchorage', just two of the new stories now
on line at www.radioheritage.net.
