[HCDX] TP/DU DX 2/19/2006

I finally got back to the dials a bit this morning  2/19. Nothing new
logged, but at least a reasonable opening. Only one DU noted, being 4QR.
The rest being TPs. However, Malaysia apparently is back in full power,
as I heard a non stop pop music station on 1475, playing US  pops,
Backstreet Boys type stuff, no anmts or IDs though. But peaking pretty
nicely.

594    JAPAN, Tokyo  JOAK, the strongest TP of the morning with man in

612    AUSTRALIA, Brisbane 4QR, good with fanfare music and pips up to
1500 2/19 with ABC News in EE. This DU shows up when no others do.

639    FIJI, good with man in Fijian at 1504 2/19. Presume news. These
Fijians sure block the channels since they went 24 hours sometime back,

657    UNID, presume DR Korea, at 1515 2/19, but too weak to tell for
sure. (PM-OR)
666    JAPAN, Osaka JOBK, fair with man in JJ at 1449 2/19 (PM-OR)
675    VIETNAM???, woman in what sounded like Vietnamese at 1511 2/19,
u/o second station CC?, both too poor to tell with KNBR splatter.
Vietnam was quite common all last Fall, so it would not surprise me.

here this, but no audio noted I could understand at 1510 2/19. A

1053    REP. KOREA, jammer here, rather poor with bits of JJ talk heard

1062     UNID, station with soft mx in splatter at 1519 2/19. (PM-OR)
1098     UNID, station with pop mx, presume a commercial JJ, but too
much splatter to copy at 1518 2/19 (PM-OR)
1134    JAPAN, Tokyo JOQR, fair with man in JJ at 1503 2/19 (PM-OR)
1179     JAPAN, Osaka   JOOR, about the best commercial JJ of the
morning, holding its own with man in JJ at 1510 2/19. Best off WNW EWE.

1287     JAPAN, Sapporo  JOHR, good with JJ pop mx and man in JJ in

1323     CHINA, usual talk in RR with foreign service at 1510 2/19 in
passing  (PM-OR)
1395    UNID, loud garbled het here in passing several times 2/19. Noted
once at 1516, no no understandable audio noted (PM-OR)
1422    JAPAN, Yokohoma, JORF, poor with man in JJ at 1517 2/19 in
passing. (PM-OR)
t1475   MALAYSIA, presume the strong station, peaking at S8 at times,
with "Short wave" kind of fading, with non stop US pop mx, Backsreet
Boys, N'Sync, etc at 1515 2/19. The old regular signal, so it looks like
the 700 KWer is back up and running full speed. Again no anmts, so I am
just presuming this was Sabah. (PM-OR)

1557    UNID, Taiwan? prob the man in US EE, sounded like a minister at
1523 2/19, I presume Family Radio. (PM-OR)
t1566    REP. KOREA, HLAZ, I presume this to be HLAZ. This is strange,
as normally HLAZ would be gangbusters, but not this AM 2/19, poor in
Unid lang, over another Unid. at 1522 . (PM-OR)
t1575    THAILAND, VOA presume with source of the weak signal in So
Asian lang, Thai? at 1525   2/19 (PM-OR)

I did not check out the X Band this morning, as I was too busy on the
rest of the dial with the R8 in the 9 khz splits. The only time I
switched over was to check out 1475.
