[HCDX] A NEW very low-powered local on 89.9

Hi Glenn and all of you !

I was in downtown Montreal today, in order to purchase CDs and to buy ticket for seeing the great African jazz performer Salif Keita is, at our International Jazz Festival, and while in the car, on the car-radio of course, picked up a strange station on 89.9. It was monaural with lots of Dopler effect fades and multi-path effects from the tall buildings, not very strong - godd at best, generally poor-fair. It had a British accented announcer and I thought, with my big excentricity, I had triple-hop sporadic-E FM DX toward the UK. Nope! The British man was followed by another man, a Quebecor-accented one this time, talking about the Formula One racing and it's preparations. It seems to be a VERY low-powered station, as I can't get it at all here in Pierrefonds. Here, I only get a weakish "Hot 89.9" out of Ottawa via tropo-scatter. In the case you aren't aware yet, the Great Price of Formula 1 will start TOMOROW, despite a national celebration (the saint-John Baptist one - the "national" day of the province of Quebec).

As for E-skip, there was some when we get back home, but the MUF seemed to be 89.7. I was buzzy with other things and completely forgot about it. It must haven't been that strong since 3 hours later nothing could be heard anymore.

As far as sporadic-E is concerned, this year has been a very poor one - only 1 great opening so far for me ! Was Es better in Oklahoma ?

Glenn, on my target list, there is a Cuban Radio Metropolitana on 102.9 (nine) which is a very clear frequency with splatter from an adjacent semi-local on 102.7 (Cité Rock Détente, Sherbrooke, 100 kW) NOT being a problem AT ALL ! I wonder it's power and where it is located. There are parts of Cuba around 1550-1600 miles, in the central north coast, like Varadero. I also wonder if Radio Taino 98.1 Varadero is still active. 98.1 is another fairly quiet frequency out here. Unfortunately, the new 4,500-Watt jazz local on 91.9, "Couleur Jazz" (CKLX) kills most of my chances of DX-listening to Radio Coco 91,7 from Havana which was a favorite of mine.

Well, may good DX be with all of you !
