The Public Radio of Armenia is on air
On June 13, 1926 the ?Soviet Armenia? newspaper informed the readers that construction of a radio broadcasting station was launched in Yerevan, which was to be the 12th in its kind in the country. On August 27 the same newspaper wrote: ?The construction of the radio broadcasting station in Yerevan has been completed. Currently the station is being tested and in five days it will start working.? On September 3 in a small article titled ?Radio messages from Yerevan? it was noted: ?For two days the broadcasting station in Yerevan has been trying to report information. The reception of conversations and music is very clear and without any distortion. Attempts have been made to broadcast radio information through 850-1050 meter waves.? This information evidences that for the first time the Voice of Yerevan was heard on September 1, 1926. Since then the first receiving and broadcasting station of Armenia has been trying to air independent information. We learn this from the list
published in the 14th issue of 1927 of the ?Radiofront? Soviet magazine, in which the Yerevan Radio Station was registered under the number 42 among radio broadcasting stations put into commission before 1927. The power of the station was 1.2 kW, the length of the wave was 950 m, the working hours were 18:00 ? 24:00. The article noted September 22,1926 as the day of exploitation of the station, and this day is officially considered the date of birth of the Public Radio of Armenia.

On November 29, 1956 the Armenian TV broadcasted its first program. After two months of testing on February 9, 1957 the Yerevan TV studio was festively opened. One of the greatest inventions of human mind ? the television ? once and forever penetrated into the life of people. The Armenian TV broadcasted its second program on February 12. Initially the programs were aired for two hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The first TV schedules were printed in the press. Only from September 1, 1957 the Radio Information Committee started publishing its paper titled ?Radio and Television.? Discussing the issues of enlargement of the volume of TV programs and establishment of the TV studio, the superior bodies separated the radio and TV from the Ministry of Culture, and the State Radio and Television Committee was founded on October 13.
