After listening to my recording a few more times and getting a second
opinion from Steve Ratzlaff, I'm certain the "code" I heard wasn't
WCXH...it was the wrong pitch, the wrong speed, and the letters (if
that's what they were) didn't fit what was being sent. I only heard it
on the lower sideband of 780 and it sounded like it had key clicks. I'm
not sure what it could have been, but it didn't correlate with any audio
on any nearby channels and might not even have been Morse code.
Possibly a spurious emission from another AM station, an industrial
device or a SW utility, or even intermod between two VHF transmitters.
Whatever it was apparently had regional coverage, judging from what
others reported.
