Radio Stations must guard against the use of abusive language

The Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku, has called on radio stations to prevent
the use of abusive language by contributors to programmes which can bring
conflicts. He expressed worry that some callers abuse opportunities offered
them during phone-in programmes by insulting political leaders, government
officials and personalities. Nii Adjei Kraku made the call at Tema Manhean
when he inspected the reconstructed Meridian FM station which was burnt
down in December last year.
Nii Kraku advised management of the station to co-operate with the Ghana
National Fire Service, the Tema Municipal Assembly and the police in
ensuring safety at the station. The Chief Executive of Meridian FM, Mrs.
Diana Heyman-Adu, who took the chief round the building said the fire
started from the main studio and destroyed all the equipment. She said the
station operated temporarily from Ashaiman after the fire incident but
resumed at the station with the help of some philanthropists who donated
new equipment to the station.
The Tema Mantse also visited the 135 thousand dollar naval clinic under
construction at Tema and urged the US navy team working on the project to
complete the work on schedule. The US navy officer in charge of the clinic
project, Naval Lt. Garath Montgomey, said the team has completed about 75
percent of the clinic. He hinted that the US navy will donate medical
equipment to the clinic next month. He said the one storey facility if
completed would have two wards, a pharmacy, medical office and a waiting
room.
