5005 R. Nacional, Bata, Is definitely the one here hrd yesterday. 2200
tlk by M in SP at t/in amid nasty local QRN. Last anmnts at 2212, then
nothing but nonstop Afro Highlife and Pop mx to s/off. Instru. NA
2255-2258*. (31 August)
5025 VL8K 0818 tlk by M and W pgm hosts in Aussie accent. 0825 "Wish You
Were Here" by Pink Floyd. More tlk by W w/ments of broadcast. 0829 ment of
nx, promo ID, usual fanfare at BoH, then W w/ABC nx. Off w/freq change at
0830:30. Not very strong. Finally able to hear this again now that Rebelde
is off the air presumably due to Hurricane Gustav passing over Cuba. (1
Sept.)
5024.95 R. Quillibamba?? *1000:52 signal on the air and mx starting 8
seconds later. Left the recorder running on VL8K after I left for the
micro-DXpedition and caught this signing on. Of course it was off freq just
a little. Not quite as good as on the 170° BOG at the micro-DXpedition site
(see below)
1 September 2008: Figured I'd take advantage of the Labor Day holiday go
up to the SGLs on a morning micro-DXpedition. Conditions were just fair for
LA and poor for Pacific and Asia. It was moderately noisy.
RX: Eton E1
ANT: 315' Beverage (BOG) at about 170°, changed to 325° at 1035-1040 UTC.
QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26, south parking lot.
Duration: 0850-1125 UTC
Solar Indices: Solar Flux = 67, A Index = 2, K Index = 2 No storms
WX: Clear and starry, then sunny. Temp in the mid-50's F.
4790.05 R. Vision 0858 nice canned ID by M w/AM and SW freqs, then into
beautiful camposina mx w/womens vcls and canned ID jingle in mid-song. Very
strong. (1 Sept.)
4826.4 R. Sicuani 0904 morning Rosary by women. 0906 M anncr but no ID,
and mx bridge, then camposina song w/W vcl. 0911 simple R. Sicuani ID
during song. 0916 M returned in lcl dialect and nice ID w/ment of date. At
t/in, carrier was 'whooping' (when tuned in SSB) and slowly drifting up
slightly. So must have just signed on and xmtr not fully warmed up. Clear
and no other stns around it. (1 Sept.)
6090 R. Bandeirantes 0929 M tlk and usual cat meowing SFX. 0930 canned
pgm promo, M continued. 0936 cat again, M w/date, then tlk by W. 0937 TC
and cat once again. Very nice signal and in the clear. (1 Sept.)
6150 R. Record (pres.) 0930 End of mx, jingle by children, live M anncr in
PT, possibly nx. Ment of Sao Paulo. 0933 TC one minute slow. Ad or promo
w/M snoring and rooster crowing, then cont. tlk by M. 0935 into ZY Pop mx.
Hrd deep-voiced M w/what sounded like "Sao Paulo" sev. times. A good ID
characteristic like Bandeirantes cat meowing. Signal on 9505 but too weak
to //. Someone else on the freq playing CH mx. (1 Sept.)
6060 R. Tupi 0939 usual impassioned preaching by M w/ment of Espirtu
Santo. Exc. Signal!! (1 Sept.)
6000 R. Guaiba (pres.) 0944 end of actuality by W then tlk by M in PT. 5
time ticks 0945. 0950 live remote report by M w/ment of nacional.
0951-0955 ad block. Ment of Brasil. 0955 back to mx. Time tick and
probable ID at ToH. Fading. (1 Sept.)
6039.7 R. Clube Paranaense 0948 nice IDs by W and M w/abt 8 ments of Clube
after ad block. Then tlk by W at remote location and followed by live
studio W again. (1 Sept.)
5024.95 R. Quillibamba??? Definite camposina mx at 1005. M anncr at 1005
but just too weak to copy. 1009 back to campo mx. 1026 M in definite
Indians dialect. If indeed Quillabamba, not as strong as it used to be, and
modulation rather low. Quite weak in the absence of Rebelde. (1 Sept.)
4796.4 R. Mallku 1012 canned anmnt by M w/ID and phone, and ending w/cat
call whistle. A little deadair then mx. 1015 nice haunting guitar and W
vcl campo mx. 1020 live M briefly between songs. Weak and lucky to get ID.
(1 Sept.)
5996.35 R. Loyola?? Just an OC here at 1023. Stayed with it to BoH but
never any audio. Heavy 5995 Australia QRM. (1 Sept.)
2310 VL8A doing much nicer when changed antenna at 1040. 2485 was best.
(1 Sept.)
3935.07 Radio Reading Svc not on. (1 Sept.)
3976.08 RRI Pontianak (pres.) 1050 Koran. 1053 studio M anncr, then mx.
Alternating M and W anncrs at 1059 w/ments of "megahertz". 1100 choral
vcls, then into soft ballad. (1 Sept.)
6890 KNLS 1055 EG ID and sked between Pop songs. Much better on the 325°
BOG than on the antennas at home. (1 Sept.)
Regular PNGs 3335 and 3315 were off. (1 Sept.)
4790.03 RRI Fak Fak (pres.) 1018 Koran going to at least 1125. (1 Sept.)
73 Dave
