Another interesting morning. That's been the case of
late, as conditions have been variable, and I never quite know what to
expect. I didn't see any reason in the solar numbers why the Asians
should have vanished this morning, but most of them did. The strongest
overseas signal today was actually from 2BL on 702. Actually it was an
interesting night too, as I inadvertently forgot to turn off my SDR
recording after listening to the TAs last night. First my regular
morning session from 1240-1320:
567	JOIK	Sapporo, JAPAN	Weak, but definitely Japanese with man speaking
at 1248.
594 JOAK Tokyo, JAPAN Man speaking in Japanese at 1248, //567
(and, unusually, a no better signal.
612	4QR	Brisbane, AUSTRALIA	Vocal by a woman at 1314, then the singer
talking with program host.
693 JOAB Tokyo, JAPAN MIA most of the morning, but a big spike
up to fair-good for a few minutes with English lesson at 1310.
702	2BL	Sydney, AUSTRALIA Perhaps its best performance of the season,
with Saturday Night Country program hosted by a woman at 1247. Fairly
steady for the next half hour.
738	2NR	Grafton, AUSTRALIA Country song by woman at 1320.
747	4QS	Toowoomba, AUSTRALIA	Man gave the weather, then into music at
1305. First time heard this season.
774 JOUB Akita, JAPAN Woman in Japanese at 1250, but under the
Australian.
774	3LO	Melbourne, AUSTRALIA	Saturday Night Country at 1250. Mixing
with Japan then, but was alone after 1300.
792	4RN	Brisbane, AUSTRALIA	Bits of classical music at 1306. Confirmed
// on remote SDR in Brisbane.
873	JOGB	Kumamoto, JAPAN Woman in Japanese at 1306. Very unusual, as
usually hearing this one is far inferior to 693/747/774/828 and is a
sign of good Asian conditions, not the case today.
1026	unID Traces of music at 1308
1116	4BC	Brisbane, AUSTRALIA Vocal by a woman at 1308. Was in much
earlier, as I note below.
1557	unID traces of music at 1301
1566	HLAZ	Cheju, KOREA	Fair signal, with man in Japanese at 1253.
1575	VOA	THAILAND	Weak, with man talking at 1302.
Since I unexpectedly had an overnight recording I thought I'd check it
out. Turned out the Japanese big guns actually did better earlier on,
with 774 JOUB having a good signal at 0825, and 693, 747, and 828 all
reaching fair levels between 0830 and 0905. The first Australian to
reach audio was 1116 4BC at 0852. 1017 had a good carrier by 0715
(likely Tonga), but never developed into audio. On the other hand the
good carrier on 1098 at 0715 had traces of talk shortly after, and had
weak audio at times between then and 1050. Seemed like a sport
commentary early on, and I'm sure I caught "....play ball...) at 0745.
Music later on, including a slow choral song at 1045 which I thought
might have been an anthem, until I heard traces of talk again at 1050.
Surely must have been the Marshall Islands. The Marshalls and
Mauritania within 12 hours certainly exceeded my expectations for the
day! Had a decent carrier on 621 at 0845, something I never get a
sunrise. That's an IBOC infested frequency, so it would have taken a
potent signal to get any audio, but Tuvalu crossed my mind.
