Re: [IRCA] Carrier and a little audio from DU near DC

Congratulations Bill. It does have a a more DU English sound to it. Unfortunately that is too early for my own recording, and suspect that it would have been ruled by JOUB at that time anyway.
It might be worth checking the ABC archive (as
Chuck's been suggesting), at least to verify that
there's talk on 3LO at that time. Or, you could
get up tomorrow morning, with the recorder
running full bore...and if that fails, then poke
around in the archives, looking for the one that hasn't quite gotten away yet.
best wishes,

Nick

Got my 4-element Wellbrook delta phased array back up and working yesterday. Recorded some HSFB last night pointing west and got up this morning hoping to at least see some DU carriers [â??tracesâ?? on the Perseus screen].
Pointing the array west, I started at about
1000utc [6am EDT] and wasnâ??t seeing
much. Sunrise today is 7:02am EDT [1102utc].
Then nearing 1030 utc I started to see a trace
on 702 fighting WWL - could actually â??hearâ??
a weak 2kHz het, something very weak on 738,
nothing on 612 and something weak on 1098.
In searching around for possibilities I came to
774 where there was a pretty decent
carrier/trace sandwiched between WMAQ and
WABC. It peaked with some audio around 1030 and
near the end of that peak I finally thought to hit â??recordâ?? and got this:
http://realmonitor.com/774-1031-2016Oct1.wav

About all one can tell with careful listening is thereâ??s a male voice in there. It would take a lot of imagination to say much more Iâ??m afraid. Presuming itâ??s Melbourne which is one of the strongest OZ stations in the Northwest.
Actually, this is the first time Iâ??ve gotten
ANY audio on DU here in DC. Few years back I
tried almost daily to see/hear something on 738
- carrier most nights, never any real audio -
and the past few years, around Labor Day, Iâ??ve
â??seenâ?? some carriers on the hi-band - 1548,
1566 and 1611 - but never any audio.
Given what Kaz and Tim Tromp are hearing in the
midwest this must be an exceptional year!
