Pulled this off of the Internet!!

KXBT/San Francisco #2 on expanded band

Just got notice from ABC Radio that their recently-affiliated Urban Gold
station KXBT/1190 will begin operation on 1640 starting March 12.

I can confirm the above.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

I pass the following along for what it is worth. Supposedly KXBT-1190 in
Vallejo, CA is going to begin operation on 1640 kHz on MAR 12. This info is
supposed to come directly from ABC Radio - KXBT is a recent affiliate of
theirs. This is not confirmed - if I get more info will pass it along.

(St. Louis, MO) -- The face of radio in America's 18th largest market is
about to change.

Tim Dorsey, a former manager at KMOX-1120 kHz in St. Louis, has joined with
a group of investors to purchase WIBV-1260 kHz Belleville, IL. The big
shocker was announced last night at 2200 local time (UTC Sunday 0400) in a
story that topped the local late-night newscasts. Three personalities at
50,000-watt KMOX announced that they would be jumping ship to 5,000-watt
WIBV.

It was confirmed at a news conference that the KMOX morning drive team of
Bill Wilkerson and Wendy Wiese, along with mid-morning talker Kevin
Horrigan, would be moving up the dial to WIBV. The morale at KMOX has been
suffering lately, since the station laid off nine employees last month.
That has been the reason why the three are jumping ship. KMOX has already
fired Horrigan, whose last day was Friday (March 1), the morning team will
be terminated as of Friday (March 8). Tim Dorsey is also reportedly
planning to talk to Charles Brennan and former CNN reporter Charles Jaco,
along with other big names. Jim White (W0NJB) has been silent about it.
Dorsey is also looking into WIBV increasing power. Rod Zimmerman, General
Manager of KMOX and FM sister station KLOU, has announced that new
personalities will be hired to replace the three who have gone over to WIBV,
but will not reveal names until a news conference later this coming week.
When there's more, I'll let you know.

KMOX has historically been "The Voice of St. Louis". Despite the fact they
still hold on to the top spot in the market, listenership has been
declining. They had a 13.9 rating in the last Arbitron book, good enough
for first place. Their highest rating was a 25.5 in the summer of 1987,
when the Cardinals were on their way to the National League pennant. The
last time KMOX was lower than Number One, to my best knowledge, was way back
in the early '70s.

(St. Louis, MO) -- Here's the latest on what's been going on in the shakeup
that has St. Louis radio listeners on their ears.
Late Saturday night (3/2) on the 10:00 p.m. newscasts (UTC Sunday 3/3 0400),
the news broke that three well-known KMOX (1120 kHz) personalities, Kevin
Horrigan, Bill Wilkerson and Wendy Wiese, would leave the 50,000-watt giant
and join WIBV (1260 kHz) in Belleville, IL, a 5,000-watt AM station that had
been purchased by former KMOX manager Tim Dorsey. KMOX immediately fires
Horrigan.
On Sunday afternoon, news conferences were held at both WIBV and KMOX to
confirm the story. Tim Dorsey says that he would be talking to other KMOX
personalities, but won't divulge names. KMOX General Manager Rod Zimmerman
announces that Wiese and Wilkerson will be terminated as of Friday (3/8), and
announces "a major radio personality" will join KMOX.
Monday (3/4)-Bruce Bradley, the controversial WIBV talk show host, announces
that he will leave WIBV when his contract is up next month. He has been the
only personality to announce his departure from WIBV. Jim White (W0NJB) says
that he will stay at KMOX until his contract runs out in 1998, after which he
plans to retire.
Tuesday (3/5)-A report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says that Wiese and
Wilkerson will be replaced by mid-afternoon talker Charles Jaco, formerly of
CNN, and Nan Wyatt, a former KMOX talker who is currently at WBBM (780 kHz)
in Chicago. More announcements to come.
This story is not over yet... at least one place is yet to be filled. Stay
tuned for further developments.

THANKS to Andrea Lowendel/Mauricio Molano (Hard-Core DX) for the alert
regarding the Spanish elections... I managed to get regional ID's on four
Spanish Radio 5 outlets, two of which were "new" for me. Also, I finally
snagged one of the HCJB tests: so far Rich McVicar says that I'm the only
one who has reported reception of this test to him.... Didn't anyone else
hear it?? Jean

Jean Burnell Drake R8A w/ 20-meter random wire through Connelly MWT-2
(jburnell@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

DATE and times are UTC.

Trans-Atlantic

1017 SPAIN RNE Radio 5, Burgos, MAR 3 2338-2345 - Regional election
results over the German; the major SS stn had results for Castilla y
Leon and a speech by the leader of the Partida Popular in Castilla y
Leon; full net programming at 2345; SIO 333
      SPAIN RNE Radio 5, Ca'ceres, MAR 3 2130-2140 - Election results from
a number of Radio Cinco stns each w/ different regional results, one
stn briefly dominant at 2134 Ided as "Radio Nacional de Espan~a en
Extramadura", full net programming resumed at 2140; SIO 322
SPAIN RNE Radio 5, Santander, MAR 3 2330-2334 - "Radio Nacional de
Espan~a en Cantabria" regional ID was fairly clear, but the Ca'ceres
faded up to severely QRM; SIO 332
1125 SPAIN RNE Radio 5, Toledo, MAR 3 2228-2248 - Was supposed to go to
regional results at 2230, but a victory speech by a member of the
Partida Popular was carried by the full net until 2237, then the
delayed regional break (2237-2247) revealed at least 3 RNE outlets of
comparable strengths: the only one IDable was from Castilla-La
       Mancha; SIO 322

Pan-American

690 ECUADOR HCJB1, Quito, MAR 3 0601-0615 - Only some code from the HCJB
DX test was discerned, but it was sufficient for Rich McVicar to
confirm by E-mail that it was indeed them; under CBF and a rel stn in
EE that I think was Anguilla. Many thanks, Rich!!

DX AUDIO SERVICE MARCH 1996

                        Informational Press Release

Hey kids... Jerry's back with another edition of the AM Switch. It
appears that the FCC is back to work, however in checking out the files in
their web page, apparently they have other things to do.
I know that this is late getting out. I've been installing some new
equipment here, and getting some construction done while there is a break in
the weather. It's been cold in Ohio, and the heavy snows put us off the job
site. One of the projects is to get ISDN facilities in the studio. At the
present time our local telco is saying 6-9 months.
Our Web Page is still attracting a lot of people. By working with
several people that are blind and use speech programs for their computers,
we have been able to solve the graphics problem. In the near future I hope
to fix up the Web page with pictures, information, and hypertext links for
better management of the material we have. I've taken the opportunity to
add an Aircheck page for people that are interested in recording of radio
stations. If you would like to check out the page in it's old for the URL
for it is... http://wcoil.com/~gnbc/
