A day late... sorry. How was I supposed to know they had scheduled me for a
class from Wed - Fri... they told me on Monday late. Anyway, the ideas I
presented last issue got a record LOW response... several were in favor of a
member database and no one mentioned an interest in combining loggings into a
single column... so will not implement either idea at this time.... pb

 HOT STUFF

Niel Wolfish - lobo@xxxxxx

Jorma Mantyla's mysteries:

610 with "Radio India" is CKTB St. Catharines which runs this program
evenings and does indeed use the AIR IS quite often.
990 Montreal is indeed CKGM again.
1430 CKYC is (as far as I know) still CKYC. They run the Country Music
stuff most of the time, except during afternoons here in Toronto when
they are in the oriental language. (I thought it was Chinese...).

Hope that helps!

Just got a ad off of KXBT on 1640 @ 5:05 pdt Tue March 19th they will be on
1640 with 10kw w/soul mx and people like Barry White. They must be on 10kw
now and are s9 here in Boring Ore. 73's and best of luck on KXBT. Also
WJDM in most every night. Mark.

PS. ALSO 24 AFTER THE 19TH AND THEY SIGNED OFF @ 06:21PDT MARK

I heard KXBT 1640 on the 12/13th of March with cool soul oldies from about
7:00pm PST on until sleep 10:00pm PST with NO Commercials!!! LOVED IT!!
I'm in Langley BC behind some mountains in Ca, Or, Wa but could pick up the
station fair to good on my old DX390. I am in the country with a southern
exposer but have lot's of big trees and have big hydro lines about 1/4 mile
away so I'm impressed with the signal.

Something I'd be interested in would be information on BCB DX accessories
not sold by Grove, Universal, EEB, etc. For example, the gear Mark Connelly
uses; such as DL-2 phasing unit, MWT-3 regenerative pre-selector and the
RTL-2 remotely tuned loop. I've never seen these accessories advertised.

I think I heard KXBT 1640 here at 5:45 a.m. till 6:00 a.m. EST (local
sunrise), but too much noise and local 1600 station upped power at 6:00
a.m., so no ID.

I don't know for sure, but I think the new R8A I have has problems.
Stations (images?) showing up where they are not supposed to be. Have you
heard of any problems like this with the R8A?

1640 KXBT Vallejo, CA Expanded band KXBT showed up in eastern Virginia
with an S9 level signal from 0135-0245 ELT 21 March. Carries
satellite-fed Solid Gold Soul overnight with classic Motown. ID's as
"Soul KXBT" at bottom of the hour. A couple of minutes of dead air
at 0146 as the station missed the local ad drop-in.

I discovered today that the AOR WWW home page is up and running. Although
much of it is under construction, it has a large amount of technical/
performance data on the AR7030, including I.F. filter plots, AGC response
curves, circuit block diagram, and much more that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Some of the data is "over my head", but I'm sure those of you like Craig &
Chuck will understand 100% of it.

AOR can be found at: http://www.demon.co.uk/aor

Once at the AOR WWW page, go to the AR7030 "Technical Specifications"
document.

XETRA-690 has been having some sort of transmitter problem. They keep
falling off the air. During one stretch I was able to log KRCO-690.

A PREVIEW. IF YOU DIDN'T DX ON EVENING OF MAR 14/15 (GMT) YOU MISSED CX
THAT ARE PROBABLY AS GOOD AS IT GETS! MIDDLE EAST ALL OVER THE PLACE FROM
BEFORE SUNSET TO AFTER 0200Z. READ ON!

MAR 8 PM didn't start tuning around until about 2230, one of my unids on
1503 had a great signal/audio but still not sure who, probably Senegal.
Syria-783 just a unbelieveable signal - from about 2320 for over 20 minutes,
man in AA hitting 10 over on peaks, 100% copy but nothing that sounded like
ID. Some other strong signals but kinda scattered and didn't really DX that
much. MAR 9 2330 things kinda slow, few signals in but nothing exciting.
MAR 10 short opening around 0000 but back to blah by 0100. Tomorrow night
could see some very good cx if 27 day cycle holds, we will see. MAR 10 band
seemed to be in real good shape, didn't hear anything new but lots of strong
signals in. Syria-783 not nearly as strong at 2310z as was the last two
nights. MAR 11 lots of very strong signals, Spain just pounding in on many
freqs, some of these the strongest ever noted. 1107 appears to have turned
into a graveyard with just a jumble of audios under Spain at times and again
someone here with TT just after 2300z. MAR 12 PM what a lovely evening,
band just covered with loud signals, sitting here listening to KXBT-1640 at
0330z on MAR 13 - not exactly armchair copy but readable. Phone call from
Ron Musco earlier this evening that he was hearing Syria-783 in CT - this
stn has done something or cx are just super their way the past few days. MAR
13 PM - lots of good signals from southern areas - Iberia/Morocco/etc - from
everywhere else sigs pretty mediocre - also not much above 1200 kHz -
highest freq station with a real good signal was Morocco-1197. Speaking of
Morocco, finally logged 702, great signal, first time. Where has this been?
Was able to // to 774 but not a trace of 827 and 1044 just buried by Spain.
Also finally Spain-828 and possible Spain 1053. MAR 14 0011 Syria-783 in
again but not as loud as over weekend. 0015 Spain 1296/1305/1314 all
showing some weak audio but upper end still pretty dead. MAR 14 PM - Oh my
gosh - I've died and gone to DXers Heaven! Where do I start, Middle East
just pouring in, almost certain Turkey-702, tentative Jordan-801 over Spain
and easily separated from 800, someone loud behind Algeria-891 that might
also have been Turkey, just fantastic signals everywhere. Syria-783 booming
in again. In addition domestic skip was late starting tonight and that
helped. Concentrated from 828 down tonight - wonder what I missed
elsewhere? Now MAR 15 0015 and still lots of strong signals but all seem to
be the regulars. 0200, band that I thought had turned rather mediocre just
gave log of UAE-1314 at 0200 s/on and //6180! In addition to what is
reported below someone under/mixing with Egypt-864 around 0215z, didn't
sound SS, Armenia? 1548 had someone in what sounded like EE, possible
Kuwait but others also possible. Tried Qatar-954 listed 0245z signon and
nothing but this very close to their sunrise. 0303 possible Saudi-1440 but
too much domestic stuff to tell for sure, 1521 rolling in but nothing on
594/648. This very close to 1440 sunrise. Now 0315z and it looks like the
big time excitements over. Since I need to get up about 0530 EST will put
this to bed now. Well, off tomorrow for a couple of glorious days in
beautiful downtown Kulpsville with the SWL's, ACE's and the Scanner Scum!
Sounds like an exciting weekend. Had been looking forward to this but with
cx the way they were this evening I almost hate to go! Have had several
responses about the country list - will send something out first of next
week - but will say now that I have decided that what I'm going to do is
just bring the existing country list up to date - there is no reason to
start over from scratch. We already have a good basic list - just a bit out
of date. Hopefully we can all agree on this. Copies of the ARRL List are
available from ARRL HQ for $2.00 or you can probably find a copy at your
local amateur radio store.

549 ALGERIA Les Trembles MAR 0245 - AA music, loud, almost equal to 550
       domestics and //153. [Merriman-VA]
558 SPAIN RNE5 Valencia et al MAR 12 0114 - woman in SS, good, //684 etc,
fast SAH and traces of second station. [Merriman-VA]
567 IRELAND RTE R 1, Tullamore MAR 14/15 2315+ - has been loud the entire
evening with Irish music, at one point a promo celebrating ?? Years
       of Irish Radio. [Merriman-VA]
 576 SPAIN RNE5 Barcelona MAR 13 2345 - man/woman in SS, possible phone
interview, fair at best, //558 and big SAH. [Merriman-VA]
 585 SPAIN RNE1 Madrid MAR 14 0035 - several men/woman in SS, discussion,
       good and //684, etc. [Merriman-VA]
 594 PORTUGAL R. Renascenca, Muge MAR 10 2335 - man/woman in PP followed by
popular music, SAH and possible second audio behind. [Merriman-VA]
 603 SPAIN RNE5 Sevilla/Palencia MAR 10 2312 - woman in SS, instrumental
       music, fair and //1107.
     + MAR 13 2351 - man/woman in SS, poor and //576. No sign of Madeira -
       yet. [Merriman-VA]
612 MOROCCO Sebaa-Aioun A MAR 15 0015 - woman in AA, into AA music with
       female vocal, good. [Merriman-VA]
 621 CANARY IS/SPAIN/UNID RNE1 Santa Cruz MAR 14 2237 - man/woman in SS,
Radio Uno ID by woman, loud, big SAH and bits and pieces of a second
audio behind, likely Belgium or Egypt. 2343 loud with men in SS and
definite echo on the audio which would seem to indicate both
       Canaries/Spain being heard. [Merriman-VA]
639 SPAIN RNE1 La Coruna et al MAR 14 2238 - extremely loud with man/woman
       in SS and //621. [Merriman-VA]
657 SPAIN RNE5 Madrid MAR 12 0117 - SS pop music, female vocal, good but
       badly slopped by 660 and //684. [Merriman-VA]
666 PORTUGAL RDP Lisbon et al MAR 13 2316 - very loud, man in PP followed
by jazzed up version of a popular song that I can't remember the name
       of, hi. [Merriman-VA]
 666 SYRIA (?) Damas-Sabboura MAR 15 0004 - someone behind Portugal briefly
with AA music, rather distinctive female vocal and seemed //783 but
not in long enough to tell for sure. Tentative. [Merriman-VA]
 675 FRANCE France-Inter, Marseille MAR 14 0017 - man/woman in FF, good,
       alone and //162. [Merriman-VA]
684 SPAIN RNE1 Sevilla MAR 14 0037 - very loud with discussion type
program in SS, Yugo behind with music. [Merriman-VA]
684 YUGOSLAVIA Beograd MAR 13 0252 - way over Spain with rather mournful
sounding music, female vocal. I'm tired of saying presumed - this
       has to be the Yugo.
+ MAR 14 0113 - same type of music but now male vocal and again way
       over Spain. [Merriman-VA]
 702 MOROCCO Sebaa-Aioun C MAR 13 2319 - Berber style music, chanting, lots
of drums, 2355 2 men with what sounded like teletalk and //774. Very
nice signal and audio - first time for me - wonder if this has been
       off?
+ MAR 14 2258 - AA sounding music, 2302 wilder Berber music behind
       strong OC and //827. [Merriman-VA]
 702 TURKEY (?) TRT-2 Catalca MAR 14 2240 - woman speaking slowly in ??,
not Morocco or Slovakia as //s checked. 2248:30 into Middle Eastern
sounding music, not AA 2250:15 woman back to fade under domestics at
2251. 2253 now back and 2 stations in, low pitched growl, 2258 bits
and pieces of a man and woman speaking with AA sounding music behind
which was Morocco. 2259:30 man in ??, 2259:40 music, 2301 man in ??
with definite mention of "Radio". This seemed to end about 2302 but
carrier stayed on and Morocco with wild Berber music now behind
mixing with someone else, probably Slovakia! This is tentative but
music sure sounded Turkish. 702 has tantalized me with bits and
pieces this entire season and it's nice that it has finally started
producing in the last two days. Turkey or not this was hitting S8 on
peaks! I have some tape but not reviewed yet. [Merriman-VA]
711 WESTERN SAHARA Laayoune MAR 14 2228 - AA music, female vocal, nice
       signal and not //Morocco A. [Merriman-VA]
 729 SPAIN RNE1 Oviedo et al MAR 14 2307 - 2 men/woman in SS, loud and
       //738. [Merriman-VA]
 738 SPAIN RNE1 Barcelona MAR 14 2307 - 2 men/woman in SS, booming and
       //729.  [Merriman-VA]
 747 CANARY IS RNE5 Las Palmas MAR 13 2334 - alone, man/woman talking to
second man on phone, good and //558, no sign of Holland.
       [Merriman-VA]
 756 GERMANY DLF Braunschweig/Ravensburg MAR 13 0402 - man in GG, 0403:30
brief classical music, 0404 talk, very good, probable Spain behind.
       [Merriman-VA]
756 SPAIN R Euskadi, Bilbao MAR 13/14 2359 - 2 men in SS with teletalk,
brief music, woman in SS, 6 pips to hour, 0000 man with nice "Radio
Euskadi" ID and into "Informativos" by a woman, super signal and
       alone. [Merriman-VA]
765 SWITZERLAND R Suisse Romande, Sottens MAR 12 0119 - great signal with

       music, good and //684, 855 etc. [Merriman-VA]
 783 PORTUGAL R Comercial, Mirandela/Porto MAR 13 0242 - man in PP, fair,
SAH but no het, Syria off. [Merriman-VA]
783 SYRIA Tartus MAR 8 2320+ - just fantastic, man in AA droning on, 100%
readable for over 20 minutes and hitting 10 over on peaks. Nothing
that sounded like ID heard. A bit later after 0000 MAR 9 noted with
       usually heard AA music.
+ MAR 10 0006 - brief announcement by a man in AA followed by AA music,
female vocal, very good. 0015+ brief periods of instrumental
Western style music interspersed with talk by soft voiced woman in
AA, 0025 brief announcement by a man in AA and into chanting, over S9
and 100% readable for 13 minutes to fade at 0028. Back loud with
chanting at 0031. Carrier cut about 0042 but did not hear actual
signoff due to fade. This has got to have increased power.
     + MAR 14 2322 - very loud with man/woman in AA. [Merriman-VA]
801 JORDAN (?) Ajlun MAR 14 2312 - had been under Spain but now on top
with AA music, man with rather high pitched voice and periods of
instrumental only, 2313:40 fade, 2317 Spain on top with AA music
behind, 2319 AA music way back on top, instrumental but in/out of
domestic slop. This music had a bit different sound from "normal" AA
music but I really can't describe the difference. Gone completely by
2321. Possible //1494, 7180 not audible. This is tentative but
nothing else really likely - and power is 2 MW. Have some tape but
       music only. [Merriman-VA]
 801 SPAIN RNE1 (7 stations) MAR 14 2310 man in SS, 2311 instrumental
music, over station with AA music and //684, 855 etc. Het is heard
here often but hard to split off audio. [Merriman-VA]
819 EGYPT Batra MAR 13 0307 - good with AA chanting, 0310 man in AA and
//864 which is a bit unusual although has been noted before.
    + MAR 15 0109 - woman in AA talking over AA music, 10/S9. [Merriman-VA]
819 SPAIN R Euskadi, San Sebastian MAR 14 0102 - man in SS with news just

with bits of audio. New. [Merriman-VA]
 828 UNIDS MAR 14 2327 - what a zoo, 2 and possibly 3 stations here, one
with western style music, some sounded like light rock, some I can't
classify that was rather repetitive, may have been Spain but no
announcements heard. Also mixing with AA talk and music, 2327 and
2333 seemed possibly //Libya-1251 and later at 2355 seemed possibly
//Syria-783 but not in long enough either time to be sure. This is
another frequency that's messed with me this season and other than
Spain last night still a bunch of mysteries! [Merriman-VA]
846 ITALY Notturno Italiano MAR 12 0106 man in EE with news, 0107:30 woman
in FF, over S9. 0209 woman in FF and 10/S9. [Merriman-VA]
855 ROMANIA Bucharest MAR 13 0351 - easy listening type music, female
vocal and all over Spain. No ID but with 1500 kw it almost has to be
       this. [Merriman-VA]

864 EGYPT Holy Koran Program, Santah MAR 13 0256 loud with chanting. 2333

       a bit unusual. [Merriman-VA]
873 GERMANY AFN Frankfurt MAR 13 0240 - fair with sports, probably
       basketball. [Merriman-VA]
873 SPAIN SER Zaragoza MAR 13 2331 - 2 men in SS with teletalk, good and

station behind almost as loud, man in ??, did not sound European.
2348 super loud with AA music and no sign of second station.
       [Merriman-VA]
 918 SPAIN R Intercontinental, Madrid MAR 12 0122 - man/woman in SS with

weaker than the 1000 domestics. [Merriman-VA]

1107 SPAIN RNE5 (5 stations) MAR 15 0134 - woman/man in SS with possible
teletalk, good and //1125. There are times any more when this
frequency sounds like a graveyard under Spain but nothing else here
       at the moment. [Merriman-VA]
1116 SPAIN SER (3 stations) MAR 15 0154 - man/woman in SS with teletalk,
fair in the domestic slop and //1044. [Merriman-VA]
1125 SPAIN RNE5 (5 stations) MAR 14 0007 - music, female vocal, opera? good
       and //1017. [Merriman-VA]
1197 MOROCCO Agadir B MAR 13 2310 - man/woman in FF, possible teletalk and
       very good sig. [Merriman-VA]
1296 SUDAN Reba MAR 13 0259 - signon with anthem, man in AA, briefly good,
0304 AA music and mixing with Spain and //7200. First time heard at
       signon. [Merriman-VA]
1314 SPAIN RNE5 (3 stations) MAR 12 0132 - 2 women and man in SS, weak but
clear behind presumed Norway OC. [Merriman-VA]
1314 UNITED ARAB EMIRATES Dubiya MAR 15 0156 TT, deep fade at 0158, tone
ended 0200, brief announcement by man, 0200:30 IS on xylophone
sounding instrument which just cut right through everything, 0202
woman in AA, possible anthem, 0203:30 woman in AA and up to S7 but
with weak audio at 0204:30 and all definitely //6180! No sign of
Norway. 0210 AA music, poor but still //6180, 0211 touching S9,
still with female vocal AA music but low audio. Guess this answers
question of who runs TT heard before under Norway and all on tape!
       [Merriman-VA]
1386 KALININGRAD R Nederland relay, Bolshakovo MAR 10 2322 - 2 women in EE,
believe mailbag program, only fair. [Merriman-VA]
1467 MONACO TWR Monte Carlo MAR 10 2321 - 20/S9 with preacher in EE.
       Welcome home. [Merriman-VA]
1476 UNITED ARAB EMIRATES UAE Radio, Dubai MAR 15 0223 AA music, in/out of
domestic slop and about equal to 1314 in signal. [Merriman-VA]
1512 BELGIUM Foreign Service, Wolvertem MAR 10 2341 - woman in Dutch, very
       loud and //5900. [Merriman-VA]
1503 SENEGAL Tambacounda (?) MAR 8 2246+ - woman/man in possible FF,
occasionally mixed with brief periods of music including something at
2248:30 with lots of drums. 2250:45 rather somber sounding music, at
first instrumental, then a man followed by a woman singing. Not what
I would expect to hear on Senegal. 2255:30 back to talk with woman
and at least two men, and possibly some brief periods of music.
Finally lost around 2312 as WTOP had been getting steadily stronger.
This was strong and completely in the clear when I first tuned in.
Not at all sure of Senegal but with language sounding like FF it is a
       good possibility. Tentative. [Merriman-VA]
1557 FRANCE (?) Nice MAR 10 2317 - briefly with man in what sounded like
FF, this is not sked to be on at this time. [Merriman-VA]

Gentlemen,
Good DU cx last two nights, to wit:

 558 6WA(t) Wagin, W. Australia, 1515-1600 3/14 ABC coverage of World Cup
cricket match btwn Australia & W. Indies. No local breaks or IDs
noted. This is the only ABC outlet listed this freq. per '96 WRTH.
Don't think the commercial stations could afford to carry this
uninterrupted. Comments? This would be first W. Aust. for me. Decent
signal level, doing better than 639 (see below). (DL-HI)
 639 5CK(t) Port Pirie, South Australia, 1520-1600 3/14 details same as 558
albeit weaker and more slop to contend with (KFI). This would
       likewise be a new territory/state. (DL-HI)
1116 4BC Brisbane, Queensland 3/15 1230 several "Radio Active, 4BC" IDs,
plenty of local spots (unlike late night US stations), and pop mx at
a level that makes me think I should have noticed this one before.
       (DL-HI)
1188 2NZ Inverell, NSW 3/15 1240 weak w/ very long fades and considerable
KEX slop. Bobbed up w/ spots for smorgasboard restaurant and local

MAR 17 0230z arrived home from the wilds of Kulpsville where I enjoyed
seeing some NRC members and getting to see/touch/and even tune a bit the new
AR7030. Unfortunately a crowded and noisy meeting room is no place to try
out a new receiver so I can't really make any comments. Gilfer had this and
their price is around $1200. Was tired but did a quick bandscan when I got
home but very poor conditions, just a few weak signals so turned rx off for
the evening. MAR 17 PM not much early, did seem to be a brief flurry of
activity in the middle of the band around 2330z but nothing new noted. On
ham net later and when I got off about 0400z looked around a bit but not
much noted. MAR 18 PM Africa Night! Europe virtually non-existent, few weak
hets from the some of the Moroccan stations - 2300 almost certain Burkina
Faso-747 and Senegal-765 for the next hour, both peaking at up around S9. No
ID from either but nothing else likely in FF and African language. Also
very strong OC on 1197. MAR 19 0005 band is virtually dead for TAs except
for a very weak het on 621. If I don't fall asleep it might be worth
looking later around 0300z for more Africans as sunrise approach's. It was
worth it! Finally VOA-Sao Tome 1530 at 0335z. Band has now opened up to
Europe and at 0400 many BBC outlets strong, Denmark-1062 booming, even low
powered Spaniards at top of band in. MAR 19 PM noisy, t-storms went through
the area this afternoon and the static crashes are still around. 2225z band
appears to be excellent but loud static crashes make DXing difficult. Likely
Senegal-765 again loud. Morocco-702 in again at 2257 - this went from not
being heard at all to practically a daily regular. MAR 20 0015 last hour
saw some nice signals, noise went down about 2330 but now loud again with
static crashes. 0130 looking around, top end good, likely Saudi-1512, good
sized carrier on 1539 again, likely German, 1521 carrier on about 0158 -
only 20 over! 1476 showing carrier at 0202, probably UAE. 0215 signals all
over the band, some at very nice levels. 0308 Sao Tome in again and better
than last nite! Just heard very interesting song on Holland-747 but since
this is a family publication I won't get into a deep description. MAR 20 PM
- first day of Spring! - 2215z bandscan virtually nothing but a couple of
weak hets, 2255 much better, quite a few sigs from Southern Europe/Africa
with some Spanish, Moroccan stations along with
Senegal-765/Libya-1251/Azores-1566 having nice signals. MAR 21 0010 opening
creeping north with British Isles/Slovakia-1098 now in with good signals.
0345z just got off the NRC Ham Net and immediately caught a nice "AM 1640
KXBT" ID so now I believe it's really them. Some TAs still in including my
mystery TTer on 1107 - this and 774 will probably drive me nuts - and these
two are real TTers - not amp problems. Time to wrap this up for another
week. Hope good conditions hold as Ben Dangerfield/Dave Schmidt are paying
a visit this weekend. One of these days I'm going to have to try some early
AM DXing to see if any TPs might just sneak in over here. But not tomorrow!
Later.

music, man in PP, was //837 but not 666 and not a trace of BBC.
       [Merriman-VA]
 693 UNITED KINGDOM BBC R 5 Live, Droitwich et al MAR 19 2352 - 2 men/woman
in EE, discussion, good signal, SAH. [Merriman-VA]
 747 BURKINA FASO (?) R Burkina, Ouagadougou MAR 18 2307 - woman and a bit
later a man in what sounded like FF talking over very repetitive
instrumental music, 2313 man in FF interspersed with instrumental
African music, 2317 what sounded like a flute with man in FF, 2318
man in FF with echo and mixed with music, 2323 very loud with African
music, mostly instrumental but occasional male vocal, 2331 man in FF
and African Highlife music, great signal on peaks to about 2340 when
faded and never really recovered. Was switching between this and
       765. No ID but nothing else really likely. Looked for SW //s but
apparently not on. No trace of Canaries. Tentative. [Merriman-VA]
765 SENEGAL (?) Dakar MAR 18/19 2259 - African music, 2300 man in FF with
what sounded like news, good but blasted by WABC slop right at the
hour, 2303:50 African music, female vocal, 2310 loud with African
music, 2312:15 man in African language with just a touch of AA, this
was long talk as was noted still going strong at 2335 and again 2350.
This language with short sentences and pauses with AA touch was
identical to what was heard on 1503 a couple of months ago. 2352
African music sounding a bit like AA chant, 2355:45 man again, across
hour again blasted by WABC, 0004 what sounded like anthem ending
0004:40 and carrier cut at 0005:30. This was peaking at over S9 and
100% readable for several minutes at a time. No ID but almost
certainly this. No SW //s audible. WRTH says signoff is 0100 so
schedule change. This would seem to answer the many "Is this on?"
questions from this season. MAR 19 2227 man in FF and into Afro/AA
       sounding music, loud. [Merriman-VA]
774 UNID MAR 20 0353 - TT, peaking almost equal to Spain. This is another
oft heard tester between 0300/0400 - come on Europeans, at least give
me a guess on this and 1107! [Merriman-VA]
837 AZORES RDP Pico Da Barossa MAR 20 0359:45 - widely spaced pips ending
on the hour, 0401 woman in PP with news and //666.
+ MAR 21 0010 - loud with PP pop music and //693 but not 666.
       [Merriman-VA]
 882 CANARY IS/SPAIN MAR 20 2345 - a mess, two separate programs in SS
here, stronger was playing rock "I'll Be There", male announcer in SS
with rather high voice, second was running teletalk and //837 so COPE
but don't know if Spain or Canaries or both. There is also a new
Spanish station here and that might have been the one with rock.
       [Merriman-VA]
936 MOROCCO Agadir A MAR 20 0024 - AA music, actually good signal and
almost as loud as 612 for a change which it was // to. [Merriman-VA]
1107 UNID MAR 21 0353 - again the mystery station here running TT, seemed
to end about 0355. Possibly back briefly at 0357 but not sure. Novi
Sad, Yugoslavia sked to signon here at 0400 - Europeans haven't you
got any ideas about this at all? [Merriman-VA]
1114.9 ANGOLA EP do Kuanza Sul, Sumbe MAR 21 0422 - man in African language,
instrumental music with lots of drums, 0427 nice copy with 2 men in
African language, no echo like heard in evenings. Had carrier/het on
1502/1503 also at this time but no sign of 944/1088/1367. WRTH says
signon is 0500 so looks like schedule change. [Merriman-VA]
1224 BULGARIA/UNID Foreign Service, Vidin MAR 19 2320 - man in ??, brief
periods of instrumental music, did not sound SS but no other COPE
stations audible, possible Holland. 2331:30 second station appeared
with woman, 2332 woman in II mixed with instrumental music, 2332:30
man in II, generally poor/fair but brief good peak at 2335 with man
in II and all //5890. During earlier period when unid heard 5890 was
       running OC. [Merriman-VA]
1485 SPAIN SER (3 stations, all 2 kw) MAR 20 2336 - man in SS, solid S8 and
       //1044. [Merriman-VA]
1512 SAUDI ARABIA (?) Call of Islam, Jeddah MAR 20 0135 - man in what
sounded like AA, briefly good, 0143 man in AA (?) with emotional
sounding talk, no //s to check. 0149 man in AA with a mixture
between talking/chanting. Frequency was being blasted by severe
splash from WWKB-1520's Country music! I'm virtually certain
language AA and this most likely but still tentative. [Merriman-VA]
1530 SAO TOME E PRINCIPE VOA Pinheira MAR 19 0335 - Finally! Man with news
in special EE, even caught "...on VOA" ID of sorts and //7340, 7405.
Couldn't keep WSAI phased for more than a few seconds at a time.
0342 man with talk on genetic engineering in animals still in slow
EE. Nice to finally get this! Would have been great copy if I could
have handled WSAI just a bit better.
     + MAR 20 0308 - even better, man interviewing a woman, 0311 interview
with Ambassador from Rwanda, 0312 equal to partially phased WSAI and
       //7340.  [Merriman-VA]
