Tim Hall - halls@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Owners of the 540 & 1260 stations in LA, who also lease time on XETIN-540,
have been claiming for the last few months that they were signing a ten-year
lease to broadcast classical music over a high-powered Mexican AM station,
calling it "K-Bach". They didn't name the station, but they promise it will
be widely heard throughout Southern California. I don't know if they are
increasing power at XETIN, or if they've leased another station (my best
guess would be XEPRS). One article in today's paper made it sound like
"K-Bach" was a new station altogether, but I doubt they knew what they were
talking about.

Lately XETIN has been on the air from 6am to 6pm Pacific local time, or even
less than that.

Latest newspaper reports say that "K-BACH" will be the two 540 stations.
This may signal a power increase at XETIN, as the owner is claiming that the
station will have a big signal all over southern California.

"KGIL" calls will probably be used on 1260. Don't know what will become of
1650, maybe they'll revive "K-news" up there.

No sign of any testing on 1650. The flea-powered TIS at the Otay Mesa
border crossing is still all alone on the channel.

Hi Guys,
My contact in Suriname initially said that he could not hear anything on
670 kHz, but in a subsequent E-mail he writes that there was a problem with
his radio! He now says that the station on 670 kHz is not new, but is
"Radika," which he adds was burned down in 1982 by the the military
government of the time. He says that the station reactivated "a few years
ago." I don't know if he means a few years ago on MW, because the station is
listed in the 1996 WRTH as 1 kW on FM. I'll try to get more, but in the
meantime I would appreciate if Jim would run the following in DX News:

SURINAME Thanks to Leonard Johanns in Paramaribo, the Suriname station on
670 kHz has been identified as RADIKA, which he says was reactivated a few
years ago after being torched by the military in 1982 (Burnell-NF).

It's nice to finally solve that mystery! ... Jean
