Hi friends
About 4660, as reported on Gatflash!, I can say I heard it
only one night (in Italy). As I wrote I could't hear any
identification, but the signal was very weak and effected
by fading. So Hans van den Boogert's question is
interesting: Laos or Vietnam? I can say that the frequency
was 4660 not 4657 and I didn't observ any carrier problem.
I tried to listen to it again but it was not possible.
Bye and good dxes

Hi everybody,

Saw a logging in Gatflash 92 and have to make a comment
about it. On 4660 kHz Laos is listed, but when I tuned
around that frequency two days ago I heard the following.
Draw your own conclusion:

VIETNAM
4657 1240-1245 Lao Cai (tent.) 2/3/97 SINPO: fair
Unstable carrier. Local music. First thought it was Laos,
but still here at 1445 and frequent mentions of Vietnam. I
checked //10060 and 5925 and yes, it was parallel.

Another station from Vietnam heard was:

4740 1345-1400 Radio Son La (tent.) 2/3/97 SINPO: lousy
No ID heard. Xinjiang PBS too strong. Gone just before
1400.

As you can see all tentatives, because IDing Vietnam's
locals is never easy.

>From Laos there was the following tentative:

6975 1345-1400 Louang Prabang (tent.) 2/3/97 SINPO: weak
Faint signal here, but clearly SE Asian language. Gone at
1400.

Recently Burma also came in fine and I made the following
interting logging:

4725 1453-1508 Voice of Myanmar - Indigenous program 2/3/97
SINPO: good
Prgm sounded like explanation official English documents.
Female presenter in local language, but with English
phrases in between. Heard Myanmar mentioned once, but no
formal ID at sign-off 1508.

PNG seems to be on an extended schedule, already noticed by
Don Phillips in DXW:

4890 1655-1733 NBC-PNG 2/3/97 SINPO: 55544
Male DJ playing local pop music. Frequent time checks for
three o'clock and IDs as "100 FM". Must be R. Kalang going
on 24 hrs and being relayed by the Karai service. Great
signal.

9675 0813-0819 NBC-PNG 2/4/97 SINPO: 44444
Reported having a talk with the FIFA director. Frequent
mentions of PNG rugby and Port Moresby. More sport news.
Brazil in the background.

I finally got my first Latin Americans on the tropical
bands. From Brazil of course:

4815 0925-0940 Radio Difusora Londrina (tent.) 2/4/97
SINPO: 32432
Religious talk by man with some music in between. 0934
heard "A Voz do Biblico" then announcement by woman. No ID
heard and CRI in Ru came on at 1000, so no chance. Low
heterodyne.

4865 0915-0922 Radio Alvorada 2/4/97 SINPO: 33333
News item programme with a sung "Alvorada" jingle between
the items. 0920 commercials. Fluttery. Gansu PBS in the
background. My 1st ever LA stn on the tropical bands.

9630 0731-0747 Radio Aparecida 2/2/97 SINPO: 24333
Just missed the ID at 0730, but music and ads until 0745
when there was a station promo.

I also had a scoop on HCJB, my first from Ecuador:

9745 0635-0645 HCJB 2/3/97 SINPO: 33443
Music programme called "Musica de Ecuador" but presented in
English. HCJB mentioned with programme title.

And finally a new frequency for CPBS 1 (oh, sorry. CNR 1).

9340 0805-0807 CPBS 1 2/1/97 SINPO: fair
ID at 0805. NF, not listed.

And those were my adventurous adventures in DX land from
recent days. I'll be out of town for a couple of days, so
see you soon.
