Tom -

I also found similar reception conditions the next evening on the 12th
of February (local). WWV on 5000 khz was inaudible, not even a carrier. On 2500
khz they were audible but unintelligable at 0318 for the propagation report.

I'd have to agree with Max van Arnhem that it was probably the geomagnetic
conditions that wiped WWV out and concurrently led to unbeleivable MW
propagation
up here in Vermont. At one point (around 0200 Feb 13 UTC) there was not a
single East
Coast station audible from 530 up to 870 khz. Nothing but Cuba, Venezuela
and Colombia. This was on my portable Superadio III in the bedroom.
Unfortunately
I was laying in bed with a fever of 102 trying to shake off a case of the flu
I've had all week and wondering if I was hallucinating. I dragged myself down
to the SW rig and thats when I found WWV missing. According to the USAF/NOAA
summaries, Feb 8-11 had A indecies above 15 on each day. The Tropical band
propagtion must have been huge.

Of all the times to be laying in bed with the flu!!
