*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

Lynn Hollerman - gmholler@xxxxxxxxxx

PLEASE NOTE: Even if you don't hear a test, be sure and drop a card, letter,

Saturday, December 13, 1997 - KTFI-1270, Twin Falls, ID will conduct a DX

will include light rock/MOR music, voice announcements, test tones, and
morse code IDs. Reception reports may be sent to:

One final note...both IRCA and NRC are without CPC chairmen...without
someone to arrange the DX tests, there won't be many tests, only the few
that some members have been able to arrange! CPC chairman isn't a terribly
difficult or time consuming position; if you can volunteer, please, please,
PLEASE do!! (you can e-mail me for more info!)

Jim Renfrew, Rochester NY - JIMRENFREW@xxxxxxxxxx
Drake R8, Radio West Loop

Help needed with unidentified stations:

1090 kHz NOV 21 2229 UTC - Station ID's as "Oldies 103". Seemed like
the power was cut or pattern changed, but the next item may be
    the same station.

1090 kHz NOV 21 2242-2244 UTC - Wisconsin news in progress, mentions
a man from Lakeport arrested, Gov. Thmpson, Wisconsin Lottery.
Signal lost in mid-sentence, either they dropped power, changed
antenna pattern, or just moved to FM without any warning. My
Sunrise/Sunset map suggests this one is WAQE Rice Lake. I can
not find Lakeport in any map of Wisconsin.

1090 kHz NOV 21 2256-2259 UTC - Consumer Alert given by Attorney General
Winston (did not hear last name), for more info call 800-482-
8982. I tied this number but it is always busy, so out of
state calls may be blocked. Station may have identified
itself as "Your Days Radio Network" and "This is the Northwest
Light". Does anyone know of a way to identify sources of 800
numbers? Oh yes, the station disappeared at 2259, leaving
    WBAL all alone.

Readers may be interested to know that WCMQ has been reported in Finland,
New Zealand, Germany, Spain, California and Manitoba. (via reports to NRC's
IDXD and Hard-Core-DX.

One other item: PCH 1620 R. Scheveningen (Netherlands) is reported to be
leaving the air sometime soon. I heard their code IDs quite clearly on the
car radio the other night (NOV 20) at 8:26 PM EST. Get them while you can.
My QSL requests have gone unanswered, however.

Here's a quick summary of listening I did from Plymouth, MA (Nelson Street
Beach) on 23 NOV. Full reports will be issued later. This DXing was done
during the period of the 1997 Newfoundland DXpedition. Chances are good that
Jean and Neil are hearing much more interesting material than I'm listing
here. I was on site for about an hour and 10 minutes: 2249-2359 UTC.
Morocco/Spain even mix on 1044, Spain-999, Algeria-981, Portugal-963,
Spain-954, Algeria-891, Canaries-Spain-882, Spain-864, Spain-855, Canaries /
Azores even mix on 837 (note Azores back to "correct" 837 from previous
836), growl / mess on 828 (Azores or Portugal in there I think), Spain /
Egypt even mix on 774, Senegal-765 dominant, "pig pile" on 747 finally
yielded Canaries-Spain, Morocco-819 (// 612), Morocco-612 local-like !,
Canaries-Spain-621, Spain-648, Spain-684 huge !, Western Sahara / Libya -
711 even mix w/ 50 Hz growl, Portugal-666, Azores-693 (// 837), Spain-603,
Portugal-594 (// 963) dominant, Spain-585, tentative Portugal-576 (apparent
// 594) in mix w/ Algeria / Spain, Algeria-549 excellent, Algeria-531
slightly over Spain & Madeira, Morocco-540 (tentative) in jumble,
Morocco-1053 and a JAMMING-LIKE buzzsaw signal (what's this ?), Spain-873,
Spain over probable Syria-918, Morocco-1044 at MONSTER level (2342 UTC) with
rustic African music, Canaries-1008 (non-SER), Spain-1134 over Croatia,
Canaries-Spain-1179, Spain-1116, Spain-1125, Madeira-1125 low power station
// 693, Spain-1215, Libya-1251, Spain-1287, Spain-1296, Spain-1305 in growl,
Spain-1314, Mauritania-1349, Spain-1359, Spain-1413, Algeria-1544. Low band
signals were better than high-banders and northern Europeans were
conspicuous by their absence. I noted a low growl against WSKO-790 (RI).
The "offending signal" seemed to be on 789.8 and could have been either
another domestic or Barbados.

I'm moving from the 'Black Hole' of Minnesota, to Norwalk, CT (next to Long
Island Sound), and would like to get your input on what kind of receiver
would be the best for AM BCB DXing. I've got a Sony IC-2010, and have
ordered the Kiwa filters for it as well as the Pocket Loop, but I have a
feeling that there are better choices. The Sony is fine for SWLing, but I'm
really looking for something that will shine on the BCB.

Any suggestions?

I am from the Toronto-Hamilton area of Ontario and am taking a short trip to

Here is a list of stations I am interested in (I have eliminated stations
with frequencies in use in or around New York City):

680 News CFTR Toronto
CBC Radio One CBL Toronto
900 CHML CHML Toronto
Oldies 1150 CKOC Hamilton

If you are around or in New York and can here any of the above stations,
please e-mail me and let me know.
