[HCDX]: PiPa#208

Howdy all & welcome to PiPa#208! (This is just the cover sheet, PiPa #208
should either be an attached file to this or should follow right after my
own greetings & name). If you only get the cover letter & not PiPa#208, drop
me a line...it's happened a few X....

I'm starting to get a bunch of PiPa emails bouncing, so...starting with this
issue, I'll be deleting the addresses of those whose PiPas bounce back. If
you mysteriously stop getting PiPa, but still want it, drop me a line & I'll
get your name back on!

Hobby Broadcasting
For everyone interested in hobby-type broadcasting, whether micro radio,
pirate radio, Part-15, cable-access TV, Internet radio, etc: The new
magazine "Hobby Broadcasting" should be out sometime around February. It
should be about 32 to 48 pages in an 8.5" x 11" format--featuring lots of
how-to articles about personal broadcasting. Right now, we're finally up to
requesting articles & classified ads, selling advertising, and processing
subscriptions, etc. Subscriptions in the US cost $12 per year. I haven't
checked the postage rates at the USPS yet, but I should have the
international mailing costs posted on the RFI Webpage soon. For questions,
etc., write me at: ayoder@xxxxxxxx To subscribe, submit ads/articles/etc.,
send it to:
        Cabinet Communications
        PO Box 642
        Mont Alto, PA 17237

Cheap IRC sale
I've had IRCs piling up here after a decade of maildropping. IRCs are used
as compensation for return postage when sending reports to foreign
countries. In the US, they presently cost $0.90 apiece, if you buy them new
from the post office. So, I'm selling IRCs (kind of like selling money below
face value) for 6 for $5 (83 cents apiece) or 14 for $10 (71 cents apiece).
See below address:

Cereal boxes
As some of you know, one of my other eclectic hobbies is collecting cereal
boxes. I'm interested in trading stuff (tapes of radio stations, baseball
cards, whatever) for cool, empty cereal boxes (in this case, "cool" means
cartoons, movie offers, etc). I'm espcially interested in cool international
boxes. Drop me a line at ayoder@xxxxxxx to barter...

ANOTHER NEW STATION IN THE EXPANDED BAND: KGXL in Costa Mesa California has
begun full time broadcasting on 1650 kHz with their unique format of show
tunes, running parallel to 1260-KGIL. This one was heard as early as 2350
UTC in Ontario on both Monday and Wednesday nights this past week, and I
believe this one has been heard as far away as Sweden already. That brings
the number of full time "EX-Band" stations to 4, along with 1640-KXBT,
1660-WJDM and 1700-WCMQ.

hope everybody had a Gd holiday and had a chance to listen to the radio. In
addition to the pirate logs below (including some nice Europirate
reception), there was also great trans-atlantic reception on long and medium
wave heard by Shawn Axelrod, Robert Ross, Ken Axelrod and Niel Wolfish (e.g.
Algeria on 153, France on 162, Iceland on 189, England on 198, Algeria &
Ireland on 252, Egypt on 864, Wales on 882, Morocco on 1044, Croatia on
1134, Norway on 1314, TWR-Monte Carlo on 1467, Saudi Arabia on 1521 and
Spain on 1602). Robert Ross and Dan Greenall even had e-skip on FM and TV
this week!

The last few days have seen low mod on RFL's 5805 frequency due
to a fault in the transmitter. It has now been replaced with another rig.
The Level 48 signal had no mod at all until lunch time on Xmas day,
this was due to an Animal which had chewed through the mod lead
during the night!!

The "LEVEL 48" broadcast over the weekend gave some Gd and some rubbish
programming, but it proves operators from all European county's can work
together. Only a few didn't bother filling their slots and these were mostly
the crap end of the free radio scene with low content as programming.
