NORTH KOREA

As of January 14, 1998, aside from Radio Pyongyang's external services, the
following broadcasts from North Korea are regularly heard at my QTH in
western Japan. Compiled from continued monitoring since early January. All
broadcasts in Korean (Northern accent) only.

(1) KOREAN CENTRAL BROADCASTING STATION (Domestic Service)

   ID: "Choson Chungang Bangsong imnida."

   Mediumwaves: See WRTH.

   2850   Pyongyang
   3220   Hamhung 2000-1800, 1800-2000 PBS*
   3350   Pyongsong
   3920   Hyesan
   3940v  Chongjin (presumed) 2000-1800, 1800-2000 PBS*
   3960   Kanggye
   3970   Wonsan 2000-1800, 1800-2000 PBS*
   6100   Kanggye 2000-0630, 1500-1800
   9665   Pyongyang 2000-0930
  11680  Kanggye

   All 2000-1800 unless otherwise specified
   *) Relays Pyongyang Broadcasting Station

(2) PYONGYANG BROADCASTING STATION (For Koreans in South Korea/Japan)

   ID: "Pyongyang Bangsong imnida."

   Mediumwaves: See WRTH, but Hwadae listed on "801" has been
   observed on 798 kHz since early 1997.

   3250   Pyongyang 2100-2300, 0100-0700, 1500-2030*
   3320   Pyongyang 2100-1900
   6250   Pyongyang 2100-0930, 1500-1900
   6400   Kanggye 2100-1800

*) Relays Radio Pyongyang in JJ 2300-0100, 0700-1000, 1100-1400

(3) RADIO FOR THE SOLDIERS AT THE FRONTLINE

   ID: "Chonyon Chobyondurul wihan Bangsong imnida."

   1613-1614v khz has been back in service since Jan. 7 and every day
   since Jan. 10. Normally 1400-2000, but on Jan. 13 (14th morning local
   time) the s/off time was 2100.
