AUSTRALIA - RADIO AUSTRALIA RE-INTRODUCES QSL's!! As an outcome of
extended discussions in Melbourne between the AUSTRALIAN RADIO DX CLUB
INC, (ARDXC) and the English Language Department of RADIO AUSTRALIA, an
agreement has been reached on 10 February 1998 between the two
organizations for the re-introduction of Radio Australia QSL s. In
recent months, Radio Australia has been unable to issue formal QSL s due
to resource limitations. The agreement provides for: - Reception reports
received by Radio Australia's English Language. Department will be
forwarded regularly to the ARDXC. - Radio Australia will make available
bulk supplies of QSLs to the ARDXC. - ARDXC will provide suitable
resources for assessment and checking of reports, and preparation of
QSLs for reports which are correct - ARDXC will forward completed
QSLs to Radio Australia. - Radio Australia will be responsible for
mailing of QSLs. - All reception reports to be sent in the first
instance to Radio Australia, GPO Box 428G, Melbourne 3001, Victoria,
Australia, and previous reports will be processed as soon as possible.
Correct reception reports are an extremely important part of monitoring
the transmissions of Radio Australia, to ensure the best possible signal
into its target areas, and this unique agreement will be of benefit not
only to both organizations in particular, but also to the worldwide
shortwave hobby in general. Both Radio Australia and the ARDXC look
forward to a continuation of the long-standing cooperation which has
existed between the two organizations, dating back to the foundation in
1965 of the Australian Radio DX club. For further information please

Australia, Melbourne, E-mail: < westland.john@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > OR John

PERU - 5470.78, R. San Nicolas, made a reply with n/d letter, studio's
photo and personal card, for my reception report in 20 days. V/S Violeta
H. Grandez Vargas, the station administrator. According to the reply,
Radio San Nicolas "Voz de R odriguez de Mendoza" was established on
April 4, 1986, broadcasting on 3860 kHz with "FRANVEL" brand
transmitter of 500W. It is currently operating on 5470 kHz shortwave and
98.5MHz FM, daily at 1100-0200. The station broadcasts with the
following programs: 1100-1200 "Recorriendo el Peru", 1200-1400
"Consagrados de Oro", 1400-1500 "Salsaboreando", 1500-1700 "Puro Ritmo",
1700-1800 "Sobreme sa Musical Criolla", 1800-1900 "Variado", 1900-2000
"Tropicalizando la Tarde", 2000-2100 "Hora Romantica", 2100-2200
"Discoteca en el Aire", 2200-2300 "El Amor esta en el Aire", 2300-0200
"Variados". The station has studios at: Jiron Matias Rimachi 507 frente
al Palacio Municipal, and also at Pasaje Hilario Lopez No.111 entrada
del "Hotel Grandez", Rodriguez de Mendoza. I think that the later one is
used for the reception office. Seemingly the station has not operated on
1380kHz mediumwave for years. (TIN / Relampago Dx # 15/FEB/1998)

HONDURAS - [?]. Perhaps something more definite will have emerged in the
meantime, but not having heard the mystery on 6621v, reported by Hans
Johnson et al. in Cumbre DX, here are my observations: there is a 1330
in Tegucigalpa listed in WRTH, HRSW, La Voz Evangelica. If it were off
to about 1324, this could be its 5th harmonic. It could have been
carrying a program from or about Jalapa, which is an inland town in
northwest Nicaragua, "very near to Honduras" as someone heard them
say, and not too far from Teguci. The only other known Jalapa, or
Xalapa, in Veracruz, Mexico, is not on the coast and no 1330 vicinity
stations are listed, nor is a Mexican likely to have a religious format
and name (Glenn Hauser, OK, Feb 12 / GH SW/DX Report 98-06, Feb 12 1998)
MEXICO - Glenn Hauser's Run for the Border, a January monitoring

NEW ZEALAND - A news item on RNZI Feb 11 said the opposition Labour
party has pledged to bring RNZI back if and when they take power, and if
it is in fact closed down by the current government. A call to Adrian
Sainsbury confirmed this and he added that a cabinet meeting which might
make the decision was scheduled for Feb 12 (Pete Costello, NJ, WORLD OF

SINGAPORE - The EG service of BBC WS via Singapore, heard Feb15 at 0800
on 21660 and 17760, with poor / very poor signal. (G.Serra, Italy, TFW
ed. )
SPAIN - Monitoring Shortwave Guide fqys on Monitoring Times Feb.98,

the EG service of TWR, Tirana, Albania. (G.Serra, Italy, TFW ed. )
SPAIN - 17770 REE 1942 Sp soccer match, this fq not listed in WRTH98
(Nigro-Uruguay, Feb 15)
SWITZERLAND - Monitoring EG Schedules on NASWA Journal 11/97, Swiss
Radio Int. 15 Feb. at 0740 on 13635 9885 and 11860. Nothing on 5840
and with its French pgm on 6165. (G.Serra, Italy, TFW ed. )
TURKEY - VOT's two frequency changes reported last week are confirmed
and are both great improvements. Actually the change to 9540 at 1930 was
in effect well before Feb 7, as noted by Mark Fine and myself. At 2300
new 7300 is relatively clear except for nearby hams, while old 9655
remains dominated by Portugal. But I wish VOT would explain why they
hate the Kurds and Armenians so much (Glenn Hauser, OK, Feb 12 / GH
SW/DX Report 98-06, Feb 12 1998)
URUGUAY - Re. my last info on resumption of CXA30 6035 the SW outlet of
R. Nacional, Montevideo ancd to occur next March, further investigation
reveals that this can be catalogued asexcesively optimistical. One of
the new MW xters was damaged at xter site, has revealed to me OM Luis
Ignacio Moreira, studios technician, who works at CX30 and is also
member of the "Radioactividades" crew at SODRE. At least, this would be
enough reason to delay the work with the current MW xter to be converted
to SW. I better should be awaiting for real facts rather than
propagating unconfirmed versions on this subject. (Nigro-Uruguay,
Feb.15)
USA - WWBS, 11910, Macon GA, did not meet its target of testing from
Feb 6. Here's why: although the transmitter is ready, and the FCC has
authorized it, the station is waiting on an electrical inspector to get
out of the hospital and approve a transformer. WWBS is actually on the
outskirts of downtown Macon, and does not expect there to be an RF
interference problem; denies knowing Brother Stair; and expects initial
programming to be only about two hours at 0000 UT, perhaps starting in a
few weeks (George Thurman, TX, Feb 10, RIB and WORLD OF RADIO 928 / GH
SW/DX Report 98-06, Feb 12 1998)
VIETNAM - Hanoi Home Service now using new 9875 0400-0400, Vietnamese,

TDP SW-98 TDP TRANSMITTER DOCUMENTATION PROJECT
February 2, 1998. For the 5th year now, detailed information is
available about transmitters used by shortwave radio stations around the
world. TDP SW-98 -- the "Transmitter Documentation Project" -- has just
come off the press in its fifth edition. TDP is the result of more than
15 years of research by Belgian DXer Ludo Maes, with the cooperation of
well-known radio personalities, international organizations,
publications, DX clubs and programmes, transmitter manufacturers and the
radio stations themselves. TDP is an 80-page booklet listing shortwave
broadcast transmitters worldwide, arranged by country. Each listing
indicates the name of the station, transmitter site, geographical
coordinates and call-sign. It also shows the number of transmitters at
the site, their power, manufacturer, type number and year of
installation and year out of service. To celebrate the 5th edition, the
TDP is printed in full colour and includes several full colours
advertisements from companies in the shortwave business. As usual, the
latest shortwave transmitters that have been installed are included and
the hard to obtain details about transmitters in Central and South
America have been expanded. This informative publication also contains a
list of shortwave transmitter manufacturers and their headquarters, plus
statistical breakdowns of the number of shortwave transmitters in use
around the world, grouped by power level, country and manufacturer. This
year's articles include "HF Transmission : an evolutionary market?" by
Jeff Cohen from World Radio Network, "Antennas for the Shortwave
Broadcaster" by Richard R. Greene from TCI, Technology for
Communications International and "History of Energy-Onix" by Bernard
Wise. TDP is read year after year by radio stations, transmitter
manufacturers, radio consultants and engineers, as well as by the
dedicated radio hobbyist. To order a copy of the TDP SW-98, send 5 GB£,
10 IRC's, 10 US$, 15 DEM,
15 AUS$, 15 CAN$, 300 BEF or 1250 YEN¥ to TDP c/o Ludo Maes, P.O. Box 1,

CHINA SHORTWAVE RADIO GUIDE
Dear Radio Monitoring Hobbyist, Hello, there! My reason in writing is
to invite you to participate in the publication of a new radio hobby
publication, entitled "CHINA SHORTWAVE RADIO GUIDE" . This new book is
to cover shortwave broadcasting in China and Taiwan, but will also
include some details on medium-wave and VHF. Key topics are: (a)
History and Political Development (b) Languages, Cultures, Geography
(c) Present day broadcasting structure and networks (d) Shortwave
operations - CNR - CRI - CBS etc - transmitter sites and
facilities - program likns - schedules (e) Progamming - local
-regional -provincial -external -non-official - relays (f) reception
reporting and QSLs, addresses (g) Maps (h) Propagation, and reception
conditions in each continent (i) Other - wired networks, InternetRadio,
broadcasting INTO China from other countries The new book will be edited
by a team of expert hobbyists, and the initial development work has
already been done jointly by Dan Henderson (USA) and myself on the
project. I will assume the role of Project Manager for this new book and
it will be physically printed here in Melbourne. It would be produced
under the general sponsorship of the Electronic DX Press. It is planned
that the book would be released in the second half of 1998 worldwide.
Could you advise whether you would be willing to be a contributing
editor of this new book, and if so, your particular area of expertise or
knowledge? We would like to include informed discussion and information
on the best reception times in each Continent, which is where you may be
able to help! Editorial input would be mainly by electronic mail and
you would receive a free copy of the book. The price of the book will be
kept as low as possible to ensure that it is accessable by a maximum
number of people, many of whom cannot afford the unrealistically high
prices being charged by commercial publishers for outdated annual glossy
references in miniscule type, full of chic advertisments and containing
very little useful information! The cooperation of the Clubs will be
sought in promoting, marketing and selling this new book, and Club
listings would be included, enabling the groups to have a worthwhile
presence in a publication which will be distributed worldwide. I would
also offer the book through my own small mail-order business "Padula
Books" in Australia and New Zealand, which has a client base much
greater than the collective memberships of all of the Australian Clubs.
Please let me know as quickly as possible if you are able to assist with
this exciting new project! Thanks! Bob Padula, Electronic DX Press,
404 Mont Albert Road, Surrey Hills, Victoria 3127, Australia. E-mail: <
