		VOLUME NINETEEN - NUMBER FOUR

July 26th 1998

Hello again

Another quiet week this week, so stright into the news recieved this
past week:

				************************

				AUSTRALIAN PIRATE:

reported Pirate 4860 plays music bit distorted heard Victoria. the
last two weeks...maybe Tasmania or deep south Victorian.

(via an Australian DXer )
[ ed note. We have NOT heard it here at the KIWI QTH yet !! ]

				************************

				LA NUEVA RADIO MUSICALE:

*In CONNECTICUT, the FCC has dealt a setback to "La Nueva Radio
Musicale," the unlicensed Spanish-language staton in New Haven. Owner
Hippolito Cuevas did the right thing and applied to the Commission for a
waiver to be licensed below 100 watts. The FCC rejected the waiver
request, and ordered the station off the air.
We're waiting to hear from our New Haven listeners whether 104.5 is
indeed silent now.

				---------------------------

				RADIO FREE VERMONT:

*There's a new unlicensed station in VERMONT, and this "Radio Free
Vermont" on 96.5 is trotting out the hoary (and repeatedly
discredited) claim that it's purely an "intrastate" broadcaster and
thus not covered by FCC jurisdiction. Their website at
http://www.sover.net/~rfv is an unusual combination of big-band music
and hardcore right-wing "patriot" links. NERW wonders: if what RFV is
doing is so very legal, why doesn't the website include any actual
information about the station's location, phone number, personnel,
etc.?

For those of you that don't know what this CD is about:

The latest breakthru in Audio compression is here. It's called MPEG
Layer 3 or MPEG3 for short. It's an 11 to 1 compression ratio that is
lossless! The majority of it's use has been for CD Audio but it works
well for other things. What I've done is recorded and encoded enough
Pirate Radio shows to fill a 650 MB recordable CD, giving you a
permanent archive. More CDs will be produced in the future as time and
interest warrant

				EUROPEAN MUSIC RADIO:

EMR (European Music Radio) will be doing a joint broadcast with
FRS-Holland on 6275kHz from Saturday evening thru' till Sunday evening.

If anyone hears anything let me know.

.Andy Walker (London)

				*********************

				RADIO CAROLINE:

Radio Caroline will be on air at various times on August 14th and 15th,
the 31st anniversary of the Marine Offences Act in the UK that was
intended to halt the activities of the station.

Times are yet to be announced but we should have ten hours of programmes
in all and the variety of frequencies and the power of the transmitters
is supposedly going to be massive.

Peter Moore,
Radio Caroline.

			NEW AIRNAV HOMEPAGE

AirNav, the Aircraft Tracking Software, has now a completely
renewed Homepage.
Using the most recent HTML concept, it's now much easier to get
in touch with the program.
The homepage doesn't use frames, JAVA or background images (faster
download) and the main objective is its user-friendliness.
It's also possible to follow a suggested Homepage Tour.

        Just go to:

        http://fly.to/airnav

and get in touch with it.

It's possible, via the homepage to:
o Read detailed program information/system requirements
o See Screen Shots made with Real World Navigation
o Download latest program version from more than 94 ftp's
o Download AirNav maps and translated Help files
o Register the program Online and receive your Registration
Codes
within 12 hours

So I really hope you enjoy the new homepage and don't forget: if
you have any possible question or suggestion just email me.

			SOFTWARE: Hamview 2.05

At the URL

http://www.freeyellow.com/members/padan

you'll find the last release of Hamview 2.05, a program for PC equipped
with audiocard SB16 (or better) that allows:

+ real time analysis of a radio channel spectrum
+ real time digital signal processing of incoming signal and
reproduction
+ simultaneous recording of audio in .wav format.

The kind of DSP methods available are:

adaptive denoising mouse-adjustable band pass filter
self-tracking band pass filter for EME reception (probably of no
interest to most of you...)

The program was developed for EME and VLF activity, but was found very
useful also for DXing.

In the next months new filters will be added. Last, and not least, the
software is freeware
