[HCDX]: Pirate Pages (PiPa) #220

Howdy all & welcome to PiPa#220! (This is just the cover sheet, PiPa #220
should either be an attached file to this or should follow right after my
own greetings & name).

This issue's a few weeks late & I'm desperately trying to catch up with
everything. Expect the next issue (#221) in the next few days.

The Summer issue of Hobby Broadcasting us out right now & you might even
find it at a newsstand or book superstore. It's 40 pages (25% longer than
the Spring issue), including Ian O'Sphere's feature on the current low-power
proposals before the FCC, an interview with the Voice of the Voyager, AM/MW
transmitters, DYNAKit FM transmitter review, recent convention info, news,
music reviews, classifieds & more.
The Fall issue is currently at the printer. The next issue (Fall)
should be available via subscription in late August and on the newsstands in
early
September. It is currently at the printer. Some of the features include a
"toolkit" for starting a cable-access TV program, digging up rare early
movies and television progams for rebroadcasting, information concerning the
recent shutdowns of Free Radio Berkeley and Radio Mutiny, the FCC's criminal
case against Lonnie Kobres, A review of the Broadcast Warehouse 1-watt
transmitter, modifying an inexpensive amateur TV transmitter for commercial
TV channels, a look back at Radio Free Naptown, building dipole antennas for
the AM band, and more!
For a sample of HB (a year's sub is $12), send $3 in the US ($4
outside) to: Hobby Broadcasting, PO Box 642, Mont Alto, PA 17237

FUTURE BROADCASTS FROM CKXO? Lee Silvi, Talea Jurrens and Charlie Crawford
all reported getting a postcard announcing that ?CKXO was coming soon?. My
understanding is that CKXO is using the Merlin maildrop, should anybody hear it.

COMMENTS:
Matt Haston: ?Not much here except heat. It is hot. Radio room is upstairs
so I have spent most of the time downstairs under the AC?.

Ron Hunsicker: ?Finally, some logs. Helps if you spend some time with the
radio. This weekend, however, will not find me listening to the shortwave
bands; my elder son is getting married, so four days of celebration!?

Scott McArdle ?my last couple of weekend listening session have been
interruped by either tornadoes and/or lightning. Also, due to all the
static, I haven?t even been flipping on the receiver until around 0200 UTC.
Now for the good news.. propagation can only get better?

Greg Myers: ?No loggings this week, I got married Saturday (6-20) so no
listening!! Not much this weekend coming up either, I?ll be honeymooning in
Montreal!?

Brad Clark: ?Heard some this week, a lot on the WebRadio sites, but not too
much out west, due to late sunset. I am following the Grapevine and the FRN
chat for tips, but it is frustrating to ?hear? things 59+ from an East coast
Webradio, and get nothing but static on the West. Where are all the
Californians??

Mike Prindle: ?It was good to do some listening this weekend. Its been
awhile. Now I need to get a couple reports out and get some QSLs in. They
are few and far between these days.?

NEWS:
??
Much activities this past saturday evening on all the bands. It seems that
conditions improve on night times there for more activities to come. On
sunday morning conditions only were so-so, sometimes very deep fade outs.

RADIO ZODIAC INTERNATIONAL made its planned marathon test transmission this
weekend on 5800 kHz but suffered from heavy QRM by RFL on 5805 kHz. Anyway,
a solid signal was audible on the continent. Usual Wuppertal maildrop.

OP Harry of Dutch based TRANS ATLANTIC RADIO made a fine clear USB signal on
6954 kHz on saturday night. We hope his the signals made it across the pond.

73, Rainer
