[HCDX]: Radio silence in the Arctic

Greetings from the Finnish Arctic. I was close to the Polar
Circle during Aug.26-Sep.1. Somebody wrote that there were
excellent conditions thanks to the geomagnetic storm on Aug.26th.
In the Arctic it was totally something else. During Aug.26-27th
there was almost complete radio silence below 7 MHz. On Aug 28th
first weak stations appeared on MW, mostly from Europe, Africa and
Near East. Trans-Atlantic reception & Far East was non-existent
until Aug.30th.

Rx was Icom R71E + 2xBeverages 300o 500 meters 105o 800 meters.

Here is a list of some interesting stations heard:

189	28.8.	0900	RUV Gufuskalar. This new 300 kW stn makes Iceland
an easy catch almost 24 hours in the Arctic. Groundwave signal? JM
675	30.8.	2200	Vo Vietnam. New high-power stn w s-on. JM
1143	1.9.	0135	Arutz Sheva. Strong w phone-in. JM
1232,9 30.8.1900	RMC Cape Greco. On split fq. JM
1386	1.9.	0155	KBC Maralal. S-on & ID. JM
1575	28.8.	2300	BBC WS Mauritius. First mixed w VoA, then
alone w 105o Beverage. Heard several times before this but even the
BBCMS didn't know from where the signal comes. Conditions & antenna
confirm earlier Finnish logging. JM
