KXL AM & FM have been sold to Paul Allen, owner of The Portland
Trailblazers NBA Team. The amount was not announced, but sources feel
it must have been in the 50 million area. This is of course bearing on
FCC Approval, whick shouldn't be a problem. Currently the Trailblazers
are on KEX-1190 until the contract runs out in the year 2000. Presume
they will be on KXL, probably the AM.

Does anyone know about a new Philippine station on 1503 khz? There
isn't one listed in the 98 WRTH, or other lists I have. I have heard
him 2 or 3 times now from 1350 to 1430 UTC, generally running Soccer,
or a sim. Sport. Heard again this morning (local time) , October 6,
1998. Any help would be appreciarted. y the way, DZEC-1062 khz-Metro
Manila was also heard at the same time.
1560t KHZ-WRSJ-PUERTO RICO, BAYAMON, mixing with KNZR, in SS with ID
after chime at 0659.45 EDT, man "WRSJ........ Bayamon......
(sounded like other cities mentioned), o/u KNZR. Fairly good at
times. Very good AU CX. WPHG-1620 o/KYIZ at the same time.
Going to try a taped report and am keeping my fingers crossed.
(PM-OR)
1560t KHZ-WRHC-FLORIDA, CORAL GABLES, possibly mixing with WRSJ, at
0659.55 EDT 10/8, right after the Bayamon, I heard
WRH?......Miami......." in jumble, also in SS. NRC log lists
then as Haitian programming, not SS, but the Miami Radio Dial
Web site lists them as SS. (PM-OR)

1660 WQSN Kalamazoo, Michigan, 0322-0400 and 0754-0822 on October 3,
signal fair at times, One-On-One Sports programming. Only
one partial ID heard at 0800: "...Sports Station, AM 1660
WQ...WKLZ, Kalamazoo." Station's web site at
<http://www.wqsn.com.> gives address as: 4200 Main St.,
Kalamazoo, MI 49006 and also says, "The Sports Station is
moving to AM 1660. You'll now get it all over Southwestern
Michigan." By going to the sports schedule section of the
site, that is, by first pressing the Radio Lineup link and
then pressing the This Week's WQSN sporting events lineup
link, it can be seen that the call letters for the
original station on 1470 (formerly WQSN) have been changed
to WKLZ, while WQSN is now the call letters of the 1660
station.
1650 KKTR Costa Mesa, California, personal letter with full data
verie statement received in 6 days. v/s Elaine S. Hawkes,
Assistant Chief Engineer, says that the station broadcasts
with 10,000 watts non-directional daytime and 930 watts
nondirectional at night. Letterhead does not show call
letters but only slogan "K-TRAFFIC 1650 AM". Address: 1500
Cotner Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90025

I had an excellent time during my brief stay at this year's
Cappahayden, Newfoundland DXpedition. I got to DX with two of the most
talented people in the hobby, Jean Burnell and Neil Kazaross.
I heard 53 countries in 3 nights of listening. Jean and Neil logged a
good number of additional countries. The remainder of the DXpedition
(to feature additional participants Werner Funkenhauser, Al Merriman,
and John Fisher) should allow the countries-heard total to pass the 100
mark.
During the midday of Saturday (3 OCT), Neil and I drove down to a
scenic seaside cliff area in Portugal Cove South, between Trepassey and
Cape Race. The purpose of this trip was to obtain an accurate daytime
groundwave bandscan from one of the most easterly sites in North
America. The bandscan is included in this message.
In a few weeks, Jean Burnell will have the final report with complete
international DX loggings and the "musings of the participants.
