II° CONTEST EUROPIRATE
"MEMORIAL MICHEL RAVIGNEAUX"
18 December 1998 - 6 January 1999
ORGANIZATION "PLAY DX" - DARIO MONFERINI
This contest is dedicated to our friend Michel Ravigneaux, who suddenly died
in June 1995 after short illness. We wish to remember his activity in the
pirate field as both a listener and broadcaster, always promoting "free radio"
and "hobby radio stations" in Europe, during almost 20 years, and his
important cooperation with dx-clubs with articles and news.
The first edition was a tremendous hit, with 48 partecipants from 21
countries, and more than 360 pirate stations logged in Europe during the
contest period, with 35 pirate stations featuring a special show.
These are the rules to take part to the second edition of the contest:
Everyone living in Europe or the Mediterranean countries may take part, just
follow the rules to enter.
Please send your entries to the contest address:
DARIO MONFERNI, VIA DAVANZATI 8, 20158 MILANO, ITALY.
The final date for your entries is the 1 MARCH 1999.
The contest fees is 3 IRCs or 2 US$ or equivalent value in mint stamps of the
partecipants' country. No fees is required for the partecipants living in East
European countries and countries of the South Mediterranean area (Algeria,
Egypt, Lybia, Tunisia, Morocco, Israel, Lebanon).
Stations to be reported during the contest must be pirate stations (not
clandestine) operating in the whole world.
Frequencies: from 520 kHz to 21900 kHz.
Contest times: from 20.00 UTC 18 December 1998 till 20.00 UTC 6 January 1999.
Contest score: each station reported will give (per every day) 5 points. All
the stations transmitting special shows promoting the second Europirate
Contest will give you 30 additional points (only one time per day per
station). All the stations may be reported more times but only on different
frequencies.
For example SWRS Radio may be reported more times on 3905, 7590 and 11470 kHz
. But not two times on the same frequency even if heard on different day.
Each station must be reported not less than 10 minutes, giving clear programs
details; only for the Dutch pirate stations making QSO are sufficent 5
minutes. Each correct program detail will give 1 additional point (maximum 20
details points each station reported).
Your contest log must contain the following details:
your name and address, your receiver and antenna and equipments, frequency in
kHz, day UTC, time UTC, station name, language, program details, quality of
reception (good/sufficent/poor or SIO-code). Contest list per day with the
page number and points is welcomed but not obligatory.
During the contest period some monitoring stations will be actives so, for
this reason, please be careful with your logs !!! cause each wrong station
name reported, will geave 20 points of penalty to your score !!!
The complete list of the prizes will be edited later on. Play Dx will offer
these prizes:
- 1 copy of World Radio TV Handbook edition 2000;
- 2 subscriptions to Play Dx bulletin from April 1999 till December 2000;
- 10 pennants "100 years of Radio";
- 10 C90 cassette with original jingles from pirate stations.
each partecipant will receive a souvenir diplome, stickers and promo items
offered by pirate stations.
Like in the first edition, it will be possible to get verified, with special
QSL-card, all the pirate stations reported by the partecipants. Reports will
be sent directly to the stations. By the way this service will be operated
also by the contest manager: if you want this service will be necessarily to
mark on your contest log the stations to be verified and for each station just
compile a reception report on a separate paper (one paper each station,
please). This service will cost 1 IRC for each station. For the partecipants
living in countries where the IRCs are not availables, this service will be
totally free.
