SPORTS RADIO KCTE OFF THE AIR AFTER FIRE
Independence fire investigator Kelly Scott said the transmitter at
KCTE 1510 AM was a total loss in a fire on Monday.
The sports radio station is off the air pending replacement of the
transmitter.
Scott said when firefighters arrived at the station at 10841 E. 28th
St. about 3 p.m. the transmitter was burning, but it was confined to the
metal box that houses it.
He could not give a damage estimate because he did not know what the
20-year-old piece of equipment was worth.
Scott said the transmitter malfunctioned and caught on fire.
When firefighters arrived they called Independence Power and Light
to shut off power to the transmitter and then put out the fire, Scott
said.
