[HCDX]: Sennheiser Model Number Correction
Just to put the record straight...
I discovered that the model number for the headphones I mentioned recently
was in error. The correct number for the Sennheiser headphones I'm using is
HD-525, *not* HD-545. I believe the 545 is another discontinued model, one
that was more expensive and had velvet cloth earpads. The earpads on the
HD-525 are soft leather, or perhaps a very realistic, leather-like vinyl. In
any event this is an extremely comfortable and lightweight headphone. I like
the over-the-ear models because they block out a bit more external sound and
do not press directly on the ears.
For those who prefer communications headphones with their limited
voice-frequency range, I recommend watching eBay auctions for military or
aviation-style headphones. These usually have true voice-frequency
transducers, not small speaker masquerading as headphone elements. There are
usually a dozen or more mil-comm and aviation headsets on sale at eBay on
any given day.
I once found a David Clark brand aviation headset at my local Goodwill
(second-hand) store for $5.00. The set worked great, and I was surprised to
discover that the particular model I had found cost US $285 when new in the
early 1990s.
