[HCDX]: Comment on the discussions about Christian Voice Darwin

Dr. Hansjoerg Biener - Wittelsbacherstr. 21 - DE-92224 Amberg

When looking for something else in my copy of Brown, Donald R.:
International Radio Broadcasting. The Limits of the Limitless Medium,
Praeger (CBS), 1982, I found some sentences which will most certainly
also apply to the futile fury about Christian Voice´s lease of Darwin 20
years after they were written:
"Many members of short wave radio listeners' clubs criticize
international religious stations on several grounds: because they take
up frequency space that could be used for 'normal' sorts of
international broadcasting, because they rebroadcast material which is
available already over domestic radio, because they have a
self-righteous tone, and because there's not much evidence that anyone
listens to them. There is some truth to these accusations, but the
accusations themselves are highly subjective, for the most part. Letters
attesting to conversions or praising the work of the stations come in by
the tens and even hundreds of thousands every year. The self-righteous
tone of much of their broadcasting finds its secular echo in the
broadcasts of many of the more political international stations.
Rebroadcast material is a small portion of the overall schedule for most
of these stations, and it is not available over the domestic services of
most countries." (p. 314)
