[HCDX] NRD535 problems

I have a friend with an NRD535, which has been suffering memory loss
problems. He has had the local radio shop replace the memory battery
without success, and sent it to the importer who has had it for over a
month without being able to fix the problem.

I am not familiar with the set, a search on the web didn't help. Has
anyone come across this problem and know what the cause/fix might be?
