From today's edition of the Times of India. However, this article doesn't
mention the frequency of the new Lucknow station. FM is still a novelty in
India, not widely available outside of major cities such as Delhi and
Bombay.

City all set to jig with AIR's FM `band'

LUCKNOW: A new era in the field of radio broadcasting will begin in the
state on Sunday with the inauguration of All India Radio's Frequency
Modulation (FM) band by Governor Suraj Bhan. Union information and
broadcasting minister Arun Jaitley will also be present.

First stereophonic FM band in UP and among a few in the country, the channel
would include programmes for all age groups. The 10 kw station with a 100
metre high antenna would facilitate a distortion and noise-free reception.
And that may even happen in your cars-- just tune in to enjoy your favourite
western and Indian music while driving, said station director of AIR,
Lucknow Satish Grover adding that its effective range would be 35 kms but it
could be audible upto 60 kms.

Talking to The Times of India on Wednesday he said that at present the FM
broadcast timings would be 7 am to 11 am and 7 pm to 11 pm, but the timings
would be increased as and when more staff were made available for this
channel. He said the one of programmes will be "phone in facility" in which
the listeners will make their request regarding songs on phone which would
be aired then.

Not only music, their would be other programmes also in which the listeners
will have direct interaction with the presenters. "Helpline", is one such
programme in which experts belonging to different fields would be called to
solve the problems of the listeners on phone. To break the monotony, there
will more music in between the questions. "Aaj Tak" would be a programme on
current affairs. People can convey their birthday and other greetings to
their friends through "Hello FM".

An FM programme presenter in Delhi Rajiv Saxena, who is at present camping
here, said that the programmes would be such that listeners would get a
feeling of their direct participation. The announcements would be quite
informal in nature, different from the existing pattern followed in the AIR.
The language would also be a mixed language, commonly used by people in
their conversation.

This programme would be available only on radios and tape decks having the
FM band. But according to a technical expert, those who do not have FM band
in their tape decks need not be disappointed. They can get an electric plate
fitted in their tape decks to enjoy this band. It costs something between
Rs. 50 to 100 only.
