RE: [HCDX] EWE antenna

Mauno,

It sounds like you are trying to get a 4-way directional array, such as
described by Mr. Floyd Koontz, WA2WVL in his second article about the EWE
antenna. See this link for the article:
http://www.arrl.org/tis/info/pdf/9601032.pdf

What you are describing will not work with the Wellbrook K9AY's head unit.
The four reception directions of the K9AY come from switching between TWO
loops in combination with feedpoint/termination reversal of each loop.
Simply hooking up the ends of four EWE antennas to the two pairs of
terminals will not give you four-direction performance.

You would need to build something similar to the relay box described in Mr.
Koontz's article, to use four EWEs. The construction is not very complex.

Another idea would be to use four individual EWEs (each with their own
impedance-matching transformer and coax lead-ins) and switch between them
with a four-way antenna switch.

best of luck with antennas before the winter storms!

Hi Guy,
a while ago I read that theoretically the loops in the K9AY act like
folded vertical antennas. What if I put 4 EWE's in right angle to each other
and connect from one end only to each of the Wellbrook K9AY head unit
terminals? I could make the EWEs 5-25-5 metres long. Of course there is a
lot of work, what do you think, would it be worth it?
